Verify PEC of private citizens

As widely emphasized at the beginning of the post, verifying the PEC of a private citizen is much more complex than verifying the PEC of a company or a professional. This is because private citizens are not obliged to register their certified mail addresses and there are no public lists to find them. To be precise, a list of PEC addresses should be contained in theNational Register of Resident Population (which is slowly replacing the National Registry Index), but will only concern those who have indicated a PEC address as their digital domicile and will only be accessible by public administrations, managers and operators of public services.

To trace the holder of a private PEC address, therefore, you need to work a little and take advantage of the (few) means available, namely search engine And social network. The first suggestion I would like to give you in this sense, however trivial it may seem, is to go up Google and look for the PEC address of which you want to verify the authenticity in quotation marks (eg. “Name.surname@pec.it”): if the address is valid and has been published on a blog, forum or any other web page, you should be able to trace it and thus verify its authenticity.

Another attempt you can make is to connect to Facebook and look for the PEC address to be verified in the social network search field. In the event (quite remote) in which the holder of the PEC address had used the latter to register with Facebook, his name will automatically appear in the search results.

Check PEC status

As you surely know, certified email addresses have a expiration (usually annual) and, if they are not renewed, they are closed. If you do not remember the expiration date of your PEC address and you are afraid that it may become inaccessible at any moment, connect to the website of your certified mail provider and access the management panel of your account. For example, if you have an Aruba PEC, connect to the site PEC.it and log in using the login form located in the left sidebar.

At this point, the management page of the PEC account should open with all the information relating to the status of the latter and its expiration. If the box is expiring, click on the button to renew it, make the payment and you will no longer risk the suspension and consequent closure of your address.

Note: Normally, notification emails are sent when a PEC account is expiring, so there should be no need to “manually” check the expiration of your address. In any case, it is always better to be cautious and do a personal check from time to time!
