How to update Fortnite: Fortnite is an online game and therefore requires an active Internet connection to be played. Another important thing is that it is a title that receives updates with a certain frequency. Periodically, in fact, Fortnite developers make updates available that improve the game experience and / or solve some technical problems, and it is important to install them in a timely manner. You would like to be able to use it too but, having recently entered the world of this famous multiplayer title, you don’t know how to do it.

Don’t worry: if you’re wondering  how to update Fortnite , know that I’m here today to help you out. In fact, in today’s guide, I will show you step by step how to do this both on the computer and on the main consoles, such as PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. In addition, if you play Fortnite on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, I will explain how to keep it updated also on Android and iOS.

How to update Fortnite on PC

If you are playing Fornite through your Windows or  Mac computer , know that updating the game is very simple. In fact, you should know that, by default, the Epic Games Launcher software will keep the games purchased and downloaded up to date, including Fortnite.

However, it may happen that these updates do not occur, because an option has been disabled in the program or there are other problems. To verify that automatic updates are active, you need to start Epic Games Launcher and click on the Settings item , which you can find in the side menu. In the new screen that is shown to you, scroll through the various configuration items, until you find the Manage games section .

Once this is done, make sure that the Allow automatic updates box is activated, so that all the games installed through Epic Games Launcher remain updated. Then click on the Fortnite item , which you can find a little further down, and make sure that the Fortnite Automatic Update box is active : if it were disabled, all games will be updated except for Fortnite.

An alternative procedure to the one indicated in the lines above is to enable updates for Fortnite directly from the Library section , reachable through the menu items in the sidebar of the Epic Games Launcher . Then click on this section and press the gear icon next to the Fortnite thumbnail . In the box that you see on the screen, move the lever from OFF to ON in the Automatic Updates  item and you’re done.

How to update Fortnite on PS4

If you play Fortnite via  PlayStation 4 , you need to know that the games are automatically updated from the console, if automatic updates have not been disabled. This feature allows, in fact, to keep the console software and games continuously updated both when it is on and when it is in standby mode.

To update Fortnite, therefore, first make sure that the PS4 is connected to the Internet (if you do not know how to verify this condition, I recommend you read my guide dedicated to the topic), after which it enables the automatic download of updates.

To do this, select the briefcase icon ( Settings ) from the PlayStation’s home menu and select the System > Automatic Downloads items from the subsequent screens. Now, put a check mark on the Application Update File  box and all your games will be updated automatically when the console is turned on and connected to the Internet.

If you want to enable updates even when the PlayStation is in Sleep mode (available only for Plus users ), go back to the Settings panel of the console and select the items Energy saving settings > Set the functions available in sleep mode and then tick the  Stay connected to the Internet box .

In case you want to manually update Fortnite , highlight the latter in the main screen of the PlayStation 4 and press the Options button on the controller. In the screen that is shown to you, select the Check for update item to start the search for new versions of the game, which will be downloaded in case they are found.

How to update Fortnite on Xbox One

To perform an update to Fortnite on Xbox One , conceptually proceed in the same way as I already explained in the previous chapter on PlayStation 4. It will therefore be necessary that the console is connected to the Internet (I explained to you how to check this condition in  my guide ) and that settings related to automatic game updates are enabled.

First, select your username at the top left and go to the Settings section ( the gear icon ) in the Xbox main menu. Once this is done, press the Settings button among the options that are shown a little further down and select the items System > Updates and downloads and then put the check mark on the boxes Keep games and apps updated .

In doing so, whenever a new version of Fortnite is available, it will automatically be downloaded and installed on Xbox One.

How to update Fortnite on Nintendo Switch

If the console you own is a Nintendo Switch , updating Fortnite requires an active Internet connection on the console.

So first, make sure your console is connected to your home Wi-Fi network. To do this, on the Nintendo Switch main screen , press the gear icon to access the Settings panel  . Then, through the left sidebar, go to Internet > Internet settings and connect to a Wi-Fi network by typing the corresponding access password.

Now, go back to the main Nintendo Switch Settings screen and select the System item in the side menu. Then enable the Automatic software update item , to make sure that your games are automatically updated.

At this point, all that remains is to start Fortnite on the Nintendo Switch main screen. If an update that has not yet been carried out is available, you will be shown a warning on the screen, to which you must respond affirmatively. In doing so, the new update files will be downloaded and, at the end of this procedure, Fortnite will be available to be played.

How to update Fortnite Android

If you installed Fortnite on Android via the Google Play Store , you can update the game as you would any other app, therefore by opening the official Google store, visiting the Fortnite tab and pressing the Update button , if available. Fortnite on Android is also available through APK downloadable directly from the official website , without requiring the Google Play Store. If you did you got that way, you know that when you install the first time Fortnite , advance is required installation of Fortnite installation program , app which has the same function as the software Epic Games Launcher PC, to manage of the game.

This app allows you to install Fortnite on your smartphone or tablet and keep it constantly updated, based on the different versions that are made available periodically. When a new update is available, it is notified within the Fortnite Installer app and you can download it by pressing the Update button .

When the download is complete, you will be shown a new section, through which you can update Fortnite: then press the Install button and wait for the procedure to end. All that remains is to press the Open button to start Fortnite and wait for all the automatic procedures to be carried out, so that the game is ready to run correctly.

How to update Fortnite on iOS

On iPhone and iPad , Fortnite is downloadable for free through the iOS App Store . Updates are performed automatically by the Apple home operating system whenever they are available.

The option for automatic updates, however, can be disabled in the  iOS Settings . To verify that this has not happened, open the Settings app ( the gear icon ) found on the home screen and scroll through the various items, until you find the one called the iTunes Store and App Store . Now, tap on the latter and make sure that the lever next to the Updates item is set to ON .

Once this is done, connect the iPhone or iPad to the Internet (I told you in detail in my guide ) and you’re done. If a new update is available, it will be automatically downloaded to iOS.

If the update is not installed automatically, you can check if there is one available by proceeding manually: first, start the App Store , via its icon ( a stylized “A” ) on the home screen and tap on the Updates tab , located at the bottom.

Once this is done, if an update is available to the Fortnite app , you will find the Update button next to it. All that remains is to press on the latter to download and install it.
