How to unlock Xiaomi without password: You have found a Xiaomi smartphone that you used some time ago and, now that your primary phone is under repair, you would like to temporarily use it as its replacement; the problem is that you can’t remember the password to unlock it and you’re afraid you’ll have to give up your idea of being able to use it. Wait up! It is not yet the case to give up: if you dedicate a few minutes of your free time to me, I can explain how to unlock Xiaomi without a password .
Well yes! With a bit of luck, it is possible to return to normal use of a device locked with a “lost” access password (or a sequence to be traced) with some solutions to be put into practice in a short time. It will be my responsibility to show them to you clearly and in detail throughout this tutorial.
However, I must warn you that there is a “price” to pay to unlock the smartphone whose password you do not remember: all the data stored on it, in fact, will inevitably be lost; in short, you will certainly have to carefully evaluate the situation before moving on to the facts. What do you say? Are you ready to deepen the topic and get to work? Yup? Well then, happy reading and good luck for everything!
Before proceeding further, I think it is right to reiterate that unlocking a Xiaomi smartphone without a password necessarily involves deleting all data and settings stored on the device. Everything is lost: apps and related data saved in memory, photos, videos, music, documents and so on (which can then be recovered via previous backups). This is because, essentially, removing the password implies a total reset of the smartphone’s operating system.
If you decide to proceed in this direction, then, expect to see your phone return to its “initial” state, that is, as it was just out of the box when you bought it. You must also know that the reset will clearly also delete any further unlocking methods previously set (sequence to be traced by combining the points on the screen, fingerprint and face data). Given these premises, before putting into practice the instructions that I will give you in the next chapters, also make sure to remove any SD memory cards from your smartphone.
Obviously, as regards the applications, you can find the list of those you downloaded directly from the Play Store since these are associated with the Google account you use on your device (I explained how to do it in my tutorial on how to see uninstalled apps. ). Speaking of Google account, I inform you that resetting the phone will lead to the removal of the unlock password but not the password of the Google account associated with the device .
This last password, in fact, cannot be removed or canceled in any way (if you no longer remember it, however, you can recover it with the procedures I mentioned here). As I explained in my tutorial on how to make backup of Android, however, thanks to your Google Account associated with your device, you can make a copy of backup of contacts, SMS, email, photos, videos, calendars and more data yet.
Once you have returned your phone to its initial state (thus removing the unlock password), you can restore the aforementioned data associated with the Google account in the initial configuration phase via backup. The latter will take place immediately after formatting the phone. Furthermore, if your device is recent enough (and is therefore equipped with MIUI 10 or later) you can also backup via Mi Account as I have shown you in this guide. Is everything clear so far? Very well, then I would say that we can safely continue.
Unlock Xiaomi without password
Have you carefully considered what I explained to you in the previous chapter ? Are you aware that the procedure for removing the unlock password will delete all the data on the phone but not the password of the Google account (which you will need to access after the reset, in order to use the device)?
Well, this being the case, let’s see immediately how to start the procedure for formatting the phone; I start by saying that these are really simple steps, which will only take you a few minutes of time. First of all, after turning on the smartphone, press and hold the Volume (+) and Power keys ( the key you normally hold to turn on the phone) at the same time until the device restarts automatically.
When turned on, the system recovery menu (a software that works outside of Android and allows you to perform various advanced operations on the device, including restoring the operating system) will be displayed on the screen .
Then select the Wipe data item (to move to the latter press the Volume button (-) and, once the item is highlighted in blue, press the Power button to confirm). Then, press the Power button again on the Wipe all data item and, finally, press the Volume (-) button to select the Confirm item and, from here, press the Power button .
Then wait for the automatic process to finish (it may take several minutes, depending on the amount of data stored in memory). To conclude, press the Power button on the Back to main menu item and then press the Power button on the Reboot item and then on the Reboot to system item . The phone will then restart and will automatically enter the initial configuration phase, the same one you already got to see as soon as you turned on the phone for the first time after taking it out of the box.
You will then have to choose the system language , your country of residence, the Wi-Fi network and accept the terms and conditions of Xiaomi ‘s service . Once this is done, to immediately restore the data from a backup made via a Google account , tap on the Copy your data item , then select the A backup copy from the cloud item .
Then press on the item Use a Google account at the bottom and enter the relative access credentials ( email and password ). Then select the name of the backup from the list of those available (they are sorted from the most recent to the oldest; you will also be shown the date on which they were made) and press the Restore button at the bottom right.
Done! You can now continue the configuration by setting a new password or an alternative unlocking method . It didn’t take long, do you agree?
Other methods to unlock Xiaomi without password
If you have had some difficulty in putting into practice the instructions I have given you so far, you can also use another valid way to format your phone and remove, in this way, its unlock password . The method I’m telling you about is based on using the Find My Device feature which is available on the vast majority of smartphones running the Android operating system .
Thanks to this system, you can remotely delete all the data in the memory of a phone; however, the latter must necessarily be turned on, functioning and connected to the Internet via data network or Wi-Fi . Furthermore, the smartphone you intend to format must also be associated with a Google account and can be found via Google Play Services (you can check it immediately by opening this page with any browser and checking that the smartphone in question is listed under the heading My devices. ).
Finally, for everything to go well, the Find my device function must have been previously enabled on the device (to do this, simply open the Android settings , go to the Google menu > Find my device and, from here, press on the switch at the top, so that the word ON is shown ; on most Xiaomi phones, however, this function is activated during the initial configuration phase).
In conclusion, it may also be necessary to enable the special permission to delete data; to do this go to Settings> Privacy protection> Special permissions> Device administration app> find my device and, from here, tap on the item Activate this device administration app . Finally, put the check mark on the box next to the item that invites you to take responsibility for the possible consequences of the operation , press the OK button and you’re done.
Once you have carried out the checks I have just indicated, connected to google.com/android/find and, if necessary, log in to the Google account associated with the smartphone. Proceed, then, by selecting the phone you want to unlock by clicking on its icon at the top left, under the heading Google find my device (if there are more devices, click on the various icons until you find the one that has the model name of yours. phone).
Then, click on Reset device and, from here, confirm the operation by pressing the Reset device button and, if requested, entering the password of your Google account. The smartphone will be immediately restored to the factory state and at the end of the process the initial configuration phase will begin in which you can restore any backups by entering the login credentials to your Google account. For more details on this procedure, feel free to check out my tutorial on how to unlock an Android phone without a password.
Alternatives to the unlock password
How do you say? Are you not interested in knowing how to unlock Xiaomi without a password but only what are the alternative unlocking systems to the latter? No problem, I’ll settle you immediately. The vast majority of Xiaomi phones have a fingerprint reader and during the initial configuration phase, immediately after turning on the phone for the first time, you are invited to configure the fingerprint unlock method.
If you skipped this step when you initially set up your smartphone, you can fix it at any time with a few simple steps. First, open the Android settings by tapping on the gear icon that you find in the notifications menu, on the home screen or in the app menu. Then, tap on the Password and security item and, from here, press on the Unlock by fingerprint item at the top right.
Then type in the unlock password and proceed by placing the tip of the index finger of the hand on the reader on the back of the device (usually the reader is circular or square and placed next to the cameras ) or, if the reader is on your smartphone is placed sideways or frontally, slide the fingertip on the sensor in question.
Move your fingertip on the reader every time you feel a vibration then touch the reader again with the same fingertip and repeat these steps until the fingerprint shown on the screen is entirely blue and you will receive confirmation of the memorization. Finally, type a name for the footprint in the compilation field below and, once done, click on the Done button . See how simple it was?
You can also set a second fingerprint (for example if you want to give a trusted person the opportunity to unlock the phone) by pressing on the Add fingerprint item and repeating the steps I have just listed.
Furthermore, the most recent Xiaomi smartphones can be unlocked by framing the owner’s face with the front camera . However, I invite you to consider carefully whether or not to activate this unlocking method since it may be less secure than the password or the fingerprint: sometimes, in fact, it is even possible to be able to unlock even by framing a photo or a person very similar to the owner of the device (this is because a little advanced 2D scan of the face is performed, different from the 3D one, much more secure, present in smartphones such as Apple’s iPhones). Furthermore, in poor lighting conditions, some problems may occur (in some cases unlocking may not even be possible).
To set up unlocking using face, returns to the menu item Password and security of the settings of Android and, from here, tap on the item Facial Recognition . Type in the device unlock password , press the Next button twice in a row and then frame your face with the front camera , which will be shown in the central box (make sure you are not wearing accessories such as sunglasses or hats and that your face is clearly visible and illuminated).
Finally, click on the Done button . Perfect! Now you can unlock your phone just by showing your face to it, just give it a try to see how you are. If you want to make unlocking by face even more immediate, press the switch next to the item Stay on the lock screen after unlocking so that the latter is shown in gray.
