Alternative solutions

If you don’t want to deprive yourself of any game but, at the same time, don’t want to run out of disk space on your PS4, you can take advantage of a external hard drive to expand the console memory. The operation is trivial and does not take long to put into practice.

Before proceeding, make sure your external hard drive supports the standard USB 3.0 and has at least 250GB internal memory. In case you don’t know, I recommend that you consult the instruction manual. Other than that, you need to know that you can only connect one external device at a time and that the configuration as a disc for PS4 will erase all data present on the hard disk connected to the console.

That said, let’s take action. If you want to extend the PS4 memory with an external hard drive, connect the latter to one of the USB ports of the console, go to the toolbar top and press the button X of the controller above theSettings icon.

After that, select the option Devices and then that USB storage devices. At this point, choose your hard drive from the list and press the button X of the controller above the writing Format as extended storage memory. Then, press successively on Forward, Format And Yup. Wait for the formatting to finish and press the key X of the controller above OK.

To set the external hard drive as the default storage space for the PS4, all you have to do is go to the section Storage memory settings, press the button Options of the controller above Extended storage memory and select the option Application installation location that appears on the screen.

Perfect: you have correctly configured your hard drive and the next games you install on the PS4 (with the relative data) will be saved directly on the external device. Happy?
