To activate AirDrop on the iPhone, call up the Control Center by swiping from the top right corner to the bottom (on phones with Face ID) or from bottom to top (on “iPhone phones” with a Home button), make a long tap on the box dedicated to network options , turn on Wi-Fi (if necessary) and tap the AirDrop icon (the symbol of concentric circles with an empty triangle inside).

At this point, select the Only contacts item from the menu that appears, to be able to receive files only from your Mac, or the All item , to be able to receive files from any Mac.

Now, go to the Mac , go to the Go menu at the top, select the AirDrop item and, if required, press the button displayed on the screen to activate Bluetooth and / or Wi-Fi . Then, click on the item Allow me to be found at the bottom and choose the option that best suits your case: Contacts only , to be able to send files to yourself and your contacts, or Everyone , to be able to interact with any iPhone.

One of the best ways to transfer files from PC to phone via Wi-Fi involves the use of Send Anywhere , a service available in the form of a program for Windows and macOS, apps for Android, iOS and iPadOS and a web application, which allows you to move files between various devices without using any cables, but via the Internet, thanks to a very intuitive system of codes and links.

The operation of Send Anywhere is very simple: after choosing the files to share on your computer, you get a numeric code to type on your smartphone and that’s it. The service can be used for free, with limitations: each upload cannot be larger than 10 GB and the links last 10 minutes . Among other things, your smartphone and computer don’t need to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

To download Send Anywhere on your PC, connected to this Internet page , click on the Download button marked with the logo of the operating system you are using and wait for the program installation package to be downloaded to your computer.

Once the download is complete, launch the file obtained previously (eg SendAnywhereSetup.exe ) and, if you are using Windows , click on the Yes , Next, Install and Close buttons to complete the setup. On macOS , on the other hand, you have to drag the Send Anyhwere icon into the Mac Applications folder , using the screen that is proposed to you. Once this is done, go to the aforementioned folder, double-click on the icon you just copied and press the Open button to launch the program.

From this moment on, the procedures coincide: click on the Transfer tab located at the top right and drag the files to be transferred to the phone in the area below the Send box ; alternatively, you can upload the files by clicking the (+) button and using the File Explorer / Finder to select them. If necessary, press the Allow access button to authorize the program to access the network. Once the files have been uploaded, do not close the program window: you will need the numeric code displayed in a short time.

How to transfer files from PC to iPhone

How to transfer files from PC to iPhone

If, on the other hand, you intend to move files from Windows PC to iPhone , you must instead use iTunes , Apple’s multimedia software used to manage “bitten apple” branded devices.

If you use a PC with Windows 10 and have not yet installed the program, you can do so by downloading it from the Microsoft Store ; if, on the other hand, you are using a previous version of Windows, connected to the Apple website , click on the Download button , start the file obtained and click on the Next , Install , Yes buttons twice in a row and Finish .

On the Mac , however, this operation is not necessary, as starting from macOS 10.15 Catalina the functions of iTunes have been integrated into the Finder; iTunes is instead present “standard” in previous versions of Apple’s operating system and can be recalled using the icon of musical notes attached to the Dock .

In any case, once the iTunes installation is complete, connect the phone to the computer using the supplied cable and wait for the program to start automatically; if this does not happen, launch iTunes by calling it from the Start menu or from the icon that, in the meantime, has been created on the desktop. If prompted, click on the Continue button that appears on the computer screen, tap the Authorize button displayed on the phone and finalize everything by typing the iPhone unlock code .

Provide the necessary permissions, click on the iPhone icon at the top left, in the iTunes window, and locate the most appropriate section, based on what you want to transfer, in the Settings box . For example, by clicking on the Music or Photos items , you have the possibility to synchronize (in whole or in part) the multimedia files of the computer with the phone: I have explained to you how to do it, in detail, in my guides on how to transfer photos from PC to iPhone and how to transfer music from PC to iPhone.

As for the other types of files, you can make the transfer only if apps with specific authorization to write, directly, on dedicated folders in memory are installed on the iPhone: these are applications such as Word , Excel , PowerPoint , VLC and Readdle’s Documents , just to name a few.

If you use apps of this type, you need to access the File / File Sharing section of iTunes, click on the name of the app that is most appropriate for the type of file to be moved (eg. Readdle Documents for PDF documents) and drag and drop the content of your interest in the iTunes window.

If you are using a Mac , as I mentioned earlier, you must instead use the Finder : after connecting the “iPhone by” to the computer, authorize communication between the devices as explained above, click on the name of the phone in the sidebar on the left and use the tabs located at the top to synchronize the contents, following the same methods already seen for iTunes. To learn more about this topic, or to know alternative software to iTunes / Finder that allow you to transfer files from PC to iPhone, I recommend a thorough reading of the specific guide on the subject.
