Transfer all data from Samsung to Xiaomi

If you intend to retire your old Samsung smartphone in favor of a new Xiaomi phone, you can make the complete data transfer via Wi-Fi, using the Mi Mover app , or via the cloud, using the Google services integrated into Android. In the latter case, you will necessarily have an Internet connection, be it cellular or Wi-Fi; I advise you to opt for the latter choice, at least in the initial phase, since the amount of data to be transferred could quickly drain the Giga at your disposal.

Mi Mover

If you had never heard of it, Mi Mover is the official Xiaomi app designed with the specific intent of speeding up the movement of data to smartphones animated by the MIUI ROM. With Mi Mover, you can transfer a large amount of items: images, videos, documents, messages, contacts, songs, events, notes, alarms, apps, call history and much more!

On the old versions of the MIUI ROM, it was possible to recall Mi Mover exclusively through a particular system menu and the app allowed data to be moved only between Xiaomi smartphones; currently, Mi Mover is instead available on the Play Store (the app is often pre-installed on Xiaomi devices of the Mi and Redmi lines ) and can be used to copy files also from smartphones (and tablets) of different manufacturers.

To do so, install Mi Mover on the Samsung smartphone : start the Play Store , type the name of the app in the appropriate field, enter Enter and tap on the most relevant result . Finally, tap the Install button and wait for the application to be downloaded and installed on the device.

Once this is done, open the application you just obtained, tap the Accept button and repeatedly press the Allow button , to ensure that Mi Mover can access the data stored in the phone. Next, tap the Continue button and move the lever corresponding to the Allow system settings change item from OFF to ON , which appears on the next screen.

Once this is done, go back to Mi Mover, pressing the Android Back button twice in a row; then touch the Continue button and allow access to the device usage data, by first tapping the Mi Mover item and then moving the lever corresponding to the Allow access to usage data item from OFF to ON .

Now, press the Android Back button twice to return to the Mi Mover screen, tap the Accept button and move the switch next to the word Allow viewing above other apps from OFF to ON . To finish acquiring permissions and set the Samsung phone to send data mode, tap the Accept and I am the sender buttons .

Once this is done, switch to the Xiaomi smartphone , open the Mi Mover app by recalling it from the application drawer, tap the Accept , I am the recipient and Installed buttons . Start the transfer and wait for the name of the Wi-Fi hotspot to be used for the transfer (eg Mi 9 ) to appear on the screen of the Samsung device.

When this happens, go back to the latter, tap on the name of the hotspot and wait for the devices to connect to each other; to finish, put the check mark next to the data to be transferred and touch the Send and Got it buttons to start copying.

The time required to make the move varies according to the amount of information to be transferred; during this operation, do not use other Wi-Fi networks on both devices and do not close the app , to avoid having to repeat all over again.

Once the transfer is complete, Mi Mover will show you, on both devices, the outcome of the procedure; when this happens, tap the Done button that appears on both screens and exit the app. Easy, right?

Google data synchronization

Google data synchronization

Another useful data transfer system between Samsung and Xiaomi (and, in general, between two devices animated by Android) is to use the synchronization of Google account data , through which it is possible to transfer contacts, app data, emails. , files, photos, browsing data and much more, in just a few taps. In order for everything to go well, it is essential that at least one Google account is configured on the Samsung smartphone and that the same is subsequently added to the Xiaomi smartphone.

All clear? OK, let’s get started. First of all, you need to make sure that the synchronization of data on the Google cloud is active on the Samsung smartphone : therefore, open the Android Settings , by tapping on the resident gear icon on the Home screen or in the drawer, touch the Account items and backup> Accounts> [Gmail email]> Synchronize account and make sure that the switches next to the data to be archived are set to ON , otherwise you do it.

To immediately store a copy of the settings on the cloud, tap the (⋮) button located at the top right and choose the Synchronize now item , located in the small menu that appears.

If you wish, you can also archive the saving of photos and videos on the device, using the Google Photos service : in this regard, I would like to point out immediately that the high quality images archived before 1 June 2021 will not go to affect the storage space available on Google Drive, otherwise yes.

In any case, to activate data synchronization, open the Google Photos app (the colored pinwheel icon ), tap on your avatar and then on the item Activate backup ; therefore choose you want to archive the photos in high quality , specify whether or not to activate the backup via data network and tap the Continue button to activate the archiving of the images.

If you deem it appropriate, in addition to photos and videos made via the camera, you can also upload images from other folders to Photos: to do this, tap your avatar again, tap the Photo Settings item and reach the Backup and sync> Backed up device folders to choose which folders to use.

After this step too, wait for the images to load (it may take several hours, depending on the speed of the Internet connection and the amount of data to be transferred) and switch to the Xiaomi smartphone .

If this is your first time turning it on , complete the initial setup process by indicating your language , region of residence, and connecting to a Wi-Fi network , if available.

Subsequently, accept the terms of use of the service, by placing the check mark next to the appropriate item and, when prompted, choose to copy apps and data from another device, by tapping the Next button .

Now, choose you want to import data from a backup from an Android phone , tap the Next button twice in a row, wait for the name of the Xiaomi phone to appear on its screen and switch to the Samsung phone .

Now, open the Google app installed on the latter, type the words configure device in the search bar located at the top, enter Enter and tap the Next button , which appears on the next screen, to start the search for available devices.

After a few moments, you should see the name of the Xiaomi smartphone appear on the Samsung device: when this happens, tap on it, check that the shapes, numbers and colors that appear on both screens are the same and, once the check is complete, do tap on the Next button visible on the screen of the Samsung device.

After this step too, touch the Copy button and, if necessary, enter the PIN or Password to unlock the Samsung device. Now, return permanently to the Xiaomi smartphone and, when necessary, log in to the Google account in use on the Samsung device, entering the password and overcoming, if required, even the second authentication factor.

The game is practically done: if necessary, enter the unlock code or pattern of the Samsung device and put the check mark next to the data you want to transfer ( apps , device settings , calendars , Google contacts , Google Photos data and Gmail ) and tap the Reset button .

Now, complete the Xiaomi configuration by defining the settings for backup , geolocation , scan , sending of diagnostic data and updates , tap the Accept button and follow the instructions that appear on the screen, to complete the configuration of the Google Assistant, create a new Mi Account (optional) and set the screen protection, privacy settings and graphic theme to use.

If the phone is already operational and, during the first configuration, you have added the same Google account previously used on the Samsung device, the data transfer will take place completely automatically as soon as you are connected to the Internet.

Alternatively, you can add a new account by going to the appropriate section of the Settings and activating the levers relating to data synchronization, as explained above.

Transfer single files from Samsung to Xiaomi

Are you not interested in copying a large amount of data to your Xiaomi smartphone, but only some files? In this case, you can take advantage of much faster systems, such as data transfer services via local network, chat systems (after connecting to the Internet) and Bluetooth / NFC.

File Transfer Services

There are very convenient file transfer services , which allow you to connect two Android devices (and not only them), to transfer data and information of various types.

One of these is definitely Snapdrop : if you had never heard of it, it is a web service that allows you to send files to devices connected to the same Wi-Fi network within a couple of taps, using the browser and without installing anything. . Once “seen” the devices then exchange data via the local network, therefore in maximum safety and speed. Seeing is believing!

To get started, open the navigation app you usually use and connect to the site on both phones. Now, take the Samsung smartphone and tap on the name assigned to the Xiaomi phone (which should appear on the “map”), in order to open the system file manager.

Now, use the latter to locate the file to send and tap on its preview , to prepare the transfer; finally, touch the Save button that appears on the Xiaomi phone screen , to receive the file, which will be saved in the Downloads folder . More info here.

One of the simplest methods to self-send you a file is to use Telegram , a famous free application, downloadable from the Play Store , very similar to WhatsApp and able to share any type of data. Unlike the app mentioned above, however, the Telegram service can be associated with the same phone number and used at the same time by multiple devices, and has a practical function designed precisely for the self-sending of messages, files and documents. of various types.

In any case, all you have to do is download and configure the Telegram app both on the Samsung device and on the Xiaomi smartphone, combining it with the same phone number; if you need a hand in completing this operation, you can take a look at the specific guide I have dedicated to the topic.

When the configuration is complete, take the Samsung phone , open Telegram , tap the ☰ button located at the top left and choose the item Saved messages from the menu that appears, in order to call up the auto-send file screen. Now, touch the paper clip symbol , use the buttons located at the bottom to choose the type of document to send (Gallery, File, Contact or Music) and use the subsequent panels to select the content. Once you have made your choice, click on the airplane symbol to auto-send it to you.

To download the file, open the Telegram app on the Xiaomi smartphone, access the saved Messages as I explained to you a little while ago and make a long tap on the icon of the file you sent yourself previously, to select it; finally, touch the down arrow symbol , which appears at the top of the screen, to download it to memory. Please note that items sent in this way are accessible on all devices associated with the same Telegram account.

Alternatively, you can choose to auto-send you the files you want to an email address accessible from the Xiaomi phone, in the form of an attachment, or via WhatsApp; in the latter case, however, it is essential that the two smartphones are associated with different numbers. More info here.

If you prefer to exchange files “directly”, you can also copy files from one phone to another using Bluetooth . So, to start, take the Xiaomi smartphone and activate Bluetooth by going to the Settings> Bluetooth menu and moving the lever that resides at the top of the screen to ON . I recommend: do not close the open panel and do not lock the screen, so that the first connection between the two devices is successful.

Now, switch to the Samsung phone , activate Bluetooth as I showed you a little while ago and open the file to send, using the app dedicated to the same; now, tap on the sharing symbol (generally depicting three dots joined by a line ), tap the Bluetooth icon and wait for the name of the Xiaomi smartphone to appear in the list of detected devices. If you don’t find the Bluetooth icon, first tap the (…) More button to make it visible.

Finally, tap the Accept button that appears on the Xiaomi smartphone screen and wait for the data transfer to be completed: the file, which can be accessed directly from the notification area, will be stored in the Download folder of the device. More info here.
