In fact, you must know that the Android terminals marketed from 2010 onwards include a function, called Find My Device, which allows you to locate them on a map and control them remotely. It is one of the most popular smartphone tracking services available on Android. Undoubtedly useful services – also because for the most part they are free tools – but in some ways a bit limited. To work, in fact, Find My Device (and also the other services for track down android cellphone which I will tell you about in this guide) require that the device to be located is turned on, connected to the Internet (via 3G / LTE or Wi-Fi network) and with GPS active: all functions that are lost if the phone is turned off, and unfortunately thieves know this. In a nutshell, these are excellent solutions for cases of loss and in some cases useful for those of theft but, do not panic, there are alternative solutions designed mainly to offer adequate protection in case the smartphone is stolen.

Would you like to know more? No problem, that’s what I’m here for. Let me explain how to track android cellphone with some of the most popular services, including the Find My Device tool, included “as standard” in the operating system of the green robot. Have a good reading.

How to track Android mobile (Find My Device)

The first step you need to take is to activate the geolocation on the smartphone you intend to track remotely. Then go to the Android drawer (the screen where there are the icons of all the apps installed on the device), press the icon Settings, select the item Geolocation and move up ON the lever at the top right of the screen that opens.

When the operation is completed, activate the localization and remote control functions of the service Find my Devide. Then go back to the Android drawer, press the icon again Settings and select the item Google and then Safety from the screen that opens.

At this point, find the options Locate this device remotely And Allow remote blocking and wipe (under the heading Android Device Management) and, if necessary, activate them by moving to ON the lever that concerns them. Mission accomplished! Now you can locate and control your device via the Internet. As? I’ll explain it to you right away.

For track down android cellphone you have to connect to the Find My Device website and log in to it using your Google account data. If the smartphone is on, connected to the Internet (via data network or Wi-Fi) and has the GPS module active, within a few seconds you will see its position on a Google Maps and you can control it remotely.

The remote control commands can be found at the top left: Make it ring allows you to make your cell phone ring continuously to attract the attention of bystanders; the function Block allows you to lock the device with a security code (thus making it unusable by strangers); the instrument Cancelinstead, it is used to delete all the data on the smartphone. This last function is to be used only in desperate cases, when there is no longer any hope of recovering the mobile phone, also because it makes it impossible to locate the terminal remotely.

The Android Device Management service can also be accessed from Android smartphones and tablets using a special device free application which allows you to take advantage of all the features of the service on the go.

How to track Android cell phone (Cerberus)

As already mentioned in the opening of the post, Android Device Manager is a great service but it is a bit limited when it comes to tracking down a stolen phone. To protect yourself more effectively against the theft of your smartphone it is better to opt for third-party solutions, such as the excellent Cerberus.

Cerberus is one of the most complete anti-theft applications available in the Android landscape that gives its best when installed on devices with unlocked root permissions.

Cerberus features include the ability to track the phone and remotely control it, such as Android Device Manager, but it also offers the ability to send commands to the device via SMS, record the surrounding audio, take photos, activate the GPS when is turned off and records a history of the device’s movements so that it can be tracked even when it is turned off (or at least know where it was before the thieves turned it off). The service is free for the first 7 days, after which you pay 4.99 euros forever. It should be noted that some functions are only available for root-unlocked devices.

How about trying this application? Open the Google PlayStore and download it: you will be able to take advantage of the free trial version and thus be able to decide if it is the right app for you.

To download it via the Google virtual store, click on the button Install and then on I accept. When the application download is finished, you will need to create an account in the application by pressing the button Create a Cerberus account. Through the registered account you can interface with the remote localization offered by the application’s web panel.

To complete the registration, follow the wizard that appears on the screen. Also, to complete the connection between the smartphone and the application, you will have to press the button Enable device administrator And Activate. These permissions are used to remotely control your smartphone. Also, just in case you have a smartphone with root permissions, press the item Grant Superuser permission. In this way you will be able to access the Cerberus functions that require the device to be rooted (i.e. the re-activation of the GPS and the permanence of the anti-theft after the Android reset).

Once you have followed these steps you will have correctly configured the Cerberus application: you can easily locate / control your smartphone remotely. In the following lines I’ll explain how to do it, in detail.

The first thing you need to do to track down your Android phone through Cerberus is to connect to the website application. Then log in with the previously registered credentials by pressing the Login button located at the top right.

Once you are logged in, you just have to wait until you are able to view a map. You will then be able to see the location of your smartphone via Google Maps.

I’ll now explain how you can control the device remotely. Use the drop down menu that you find at the top left: you will have all the commands available to control the device remotely. Among the noteworthy features, I would like to point out the possibility of setting off an alarm, obtaining the location history, taking photos, making videos and much more.

The other Cerberus features I want to tell you about are located in the smartphone application: go to the item Main configuration and put the check mark next to the item Hide from application list. This way you can make the application invisible. If you spot the rumors Lock Power menu And Lock status bar you can protect yourself in case of theft: the thief will not be able to turn off the phone or view the status bar from the lock screen.

As you no doubt understand, Cerberus is the most feature-packed Android application you can use, especially if your device is stolen.

How to track Android cell phone (Lost Android)

Another anti-theft solution for Android that I recommend you to consider is Android Lost which allows you to locate your phone and control it via the Internet or by telephone. Among its most interesting features, I would like to point out the possibility to receive the history of calls and messages, take photos and delete the contents of the device.

Android Lost is basic free but includes some advanced features, such as the ability to disguise the application and set it as a system app, which require the payment of 3.35 euros to be unlocked (after an initial 7-day trial in which you can try for free).

Also in this case, after downloading the application on your device you will have to grant it administrator permissions by pressing the button Request Administrator Rights and then on Activate.

The other noteworthy features of Android Lost allow you to track your Android phone, lock it, format it, make it ring, take photos, record audio, and even wake GPS; all remotely. It is also interesting to note that Android Lost allows you to remotely control the Android smartphone via SMS.

To retrace your Android phone, using Android Lost you will need to go to the official website of the application: AndroidLost.com. The first thing to do is to press the button Sign In to authenticate with your Google account (the same one you have configured on the Android phone you want to locate). At this point you just have to press the button Allow to complete the authentication process.

Once you have entered the application’s web platform, simply select the tab Controls and click the button Send location. In this way you can view a map of Google Maps and check the current position of your Android smartphone.

To evaluate all the other features of Android Lost just click on the tab Status (to activate / deactivate the various connections), Messages (activate / deactivate the functions of sending and receiving SMS remotely) or Security (you can lock / format your smartphone).
