So, to get started, launch the Instagram app, log into your account, and swipe from right to left on the home screen to open the story editor.

At this point, tap on the icon of multimedia gallery located in the lower left corner and import the video of your interest, selecting it from the memory of your device. Once this is done, if the video is longer than 60 seconds this will be automatically cropped by Instagram which will split it into multiple stories from 60 seconds each.

How to stretch a video for Instagram in posts

As anticipated, if a video made lasts maximum 60 minutes you can publish it in post of Instagram, so that it is visible on your profilein the section Posts and Videos.

To do this, log in to Instagram via the social network app (or you can also act in the same way from your PC, via the Instagram official website or using the app for Windows 10 or later), tap on button (+) located in the upper right corner and, in the menu that is shown to you, presses on the item Post.

Now, import the movie you want to publish from the gallery of your device, press the icon Forward located at the top for two consecutive times and then write the caption accompanying for the post. At the end of the customization, click on the button Shareto confirm the publication of the video.

Another solution you have available to stretch a video for Instagram is the one relating to the publication of the video on Instagram Reela section of the social network in which videos can be accompanied by music and last a maximum 60 seconds.

Therefore, to get started, launch the Instagram and then, after logging into your account, tap the button (+).

At this point, press on the voice Reelto open this Instagram editor, then repeatedly presses the button 15 located on the left, in order to extend the maximum duration of the video up to 60 seconds. If your video is longer than 1 minute, you will need to trim it first with some apps fit for purpose and publish it as more Reel.

Now, import the movie by choosing from your device memory and press the button add to import it into the timeline. Then, use the tools dedicated to the creation of Reel on Instagram, choosing a soundtrack for the movie (the icon of the musical note) and adding any filters and effects (the icon of the spark).

When you have finished editing, click on the button Previewthen tap on the item Forward. Now write one caption for the video and finally press the button Shareto publish the video in the section Reel of Instagram that is visible on your profile.

As already mentioned above, to post videos longer than allowed on Instagram you have to use third-party apps to cut the videos and make them fit the pre-established time limits of each section of the social network. Here are some examples.

  • inShot (Android/iOS / iPadOS): is an app dedicated to video editing, which also allows you to add filters and effects. AND free, basic, but applies a watermark to exported videos, which can be removed for free with each use. It also offers the optional purchase of the version Pro (€ 3.99 / month) which allows you to export videos without having to remove the watermark every time and also to get unlimited access to all available filters and effects.   • Story Cutter for Instagram (Android): is an app that allows you to cut a video, automatically splitting it into clips from 10 seconds AND freebut if you want to choose a different cut for splitting your movies, you need to purchase version a payment (€ 3.99 / one-time).
  • iMovie (iOS / iPadOS): is the video editing app included “standard” on Apple devices. It is an app that makes ease of use its strong point, as it allows you to cut a video quickly and immediately. You can find more information on its use in my tutorial on how to use iMovie.
