Things are exactly this way and would you like to understand if I can help you? Of course yes, don’t worry! With this tutorial today I would like to explain to you, step by step, how to search for similar images.
You need to know that there are some specific and use web services on the net as well as apps ad hoc for smartphones and tablets through which it is possible to search for similar images starting from a given photo on the device in use or which is visible directly online. The use of these solutions is really very simple so even if you do not consider yourself a great expert in new technologies, you have nothing to worry about, for sure you will be able to use them without particular difficulties.
Having said that, if you are therefore really interested in the question, I suggest you not to waste any more precious time, to ban the talk and to start immediately to focus on the indications on how to look for similar images that you find right below. Are you ready? Yes? Excellent, then let’s proceed. Enjoy the reading!
Google Images (Online)
The first solution that I suggest you take to look for similar images is Google Images, the online tool made available by big G and attached directly to the famous search engine that allows you not only to find photos based on the terms you have typed but also to search for similar shots starting from a given image. In a nutshell, you can upload or link a photo on the site and Google will find all the similar images on the net.
Using it is a real no-brainer. All you have to do is connect to the main page of the service via the link I just provided and click on the icon of the camera present in the search bar. Then click on the entry Upload an image and use the button Choose file / Browse to upload the photo you want to search for.
Wait a few moments and the service will offer you a series of photos similar to the one you uploaded (Visually similar images), more than links to web pages that contain an exact copy. Try to find the one that most interests you and click on it to get more information.
If instead you want to search by images starting from a photo you found on the Internet, before starting the search procedure click on the item Paste image URL attached to the main page of Google Images, paste the address of the reference image and then click on the button Search by image.
If you don’t know how to download the address of an image on the Internet, right-click on it and select the item Copy the address of the image from the menu that is then shown to you.
Subsequently, Google will show you all the Web pages that contain the image you have selected, just as seen a few more lines by acting with the images uploaded from the computer. Beautiful, is not it?
As an alternative to the Google home solution, you can also search for similar images with TinEye. Have you never heard of it? No problem, I’ll explain right away what it is. It is an online service that allows you to find images similar to those that are loaded on it in a very practical and fast way. It is definitely worth a try, it only takes a few moments.
To use it, immediately connect to the main web page of the service through the link I just provided and click on thearrow icon located next to the search bar.
Now select the image you want to use for the search and wait a few moments for the upload to be completed and all the Web pages that contain images similar to the one you have uploaded are shown. Then click on the click of your interest to get more details.
Like on Google, also on TinEye you can search for images similar to images already present online. To do this, you need to paste the link of the image (you can find it by following the instructions I provided in the previous lines) in the field Upload or enter image URL and click on the icon of magnifying glass located on the right.
If this may interest you, I point out that TinEye is also available as an extension for Firefox, Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer is Opera. By installing the add-on on the web browser that you generally use to surf the net, you can search for images simply by right-clicking on it and selecting the appropriate item from the menu that opens. A real convenience!
Are you interested in how to look for similar images because you notice a certain resemblance between your friend and a famous person but you cannot remember the name of the latter? Then run to visit PicTriev. It is a site where, by uploading a front photo, you can view other photos “fished” from the Internet depicting celebrities with a similar physical appearance. Of course, the service may be less useful than those mentioned above but it can always be useful in some circumstances!
All you have to do to search for similar images with PicTriev is to connect to the main page of the service via the link I provided a few moments ago, click on the button Upload image and select the photo of the person you want to search for. If the photo that the person to be searched for is available online, you can also avoid uploading the photo by pasting the link of the photo in the appropriate field under the heading Paste Image URL: and then clicking on the button Research placed on the right. In both cases, please, try to upload or select from the web an image in which the face of the person in question is front and clearly visible, in this way you will ensure more satisfactory results
After a few moments, a page will then open with the list of photos found and the percentage of similarity of the latter with the original one.
Another valid solution that I want to advise you to look for similar images is CTRLQ.org. It is a Web service that allows you to take advantage of the image search system offered by Google from smartphones and tablets (functionality that on the mobile version of the search engine does not allow you to upload photos). To use it, all you have to do is open the browser (e.g. Chrome on Android or Safari on iPhone / iPad) and connect to the link I just provided.
On the page that opens, presses the button Upload picture, select the photo you want to use for your search, tap the button Show matching images and wait for the search results to show up on Google Images.
Obviously, although it is a service designed mostly to be exploited by mobile due to the lack of Google mentioned above, it does not mean that it is not usable even from the desktop. So if you prefer to use this service rather than Google Images … do it without problems!
QiXingchen Image Search (Android)
If, on the other hand, you need to search for similar images using your smartphone or tablet and you are using Android, allow me to suggest that you use Image Search by QiXingchen. It is in fact a free application that offers a simplified interface for searching for images on Google. Try it now and you will see that you will not regret it.
The operation of the app turns out to be quite intuitive, to the point that there would even be no need to explain how to use it. In any case, all you have to do is press the icon of the cloud located at the bottom right and select the photo to be used for the search.
Once the screen containing the search results is displayed, press on the image for which you are interested in knowing more details and you’re done.
I point out that the function is also present Custom search engines, through which you can add personalized search engines to the app.
If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can search for similar images by contacting veracity, a free app used specifically for the purpose in question that allows you to select the photos to be used from the iOS roll, Dropbox or from the system clipboard.
To use Veracity, download the application on your device, start it and press the icon Camera roll. Then authorize access to the iOS photo library, choose the image you want to use for the search and wait for the upload procedure to end.
Once this is done, you will see a screen appear with the image you have just selected and, at the bottom, the list of Web pages that contain it (or contain) other similar images.
Other useful resources
In addition to the services and apps that I suggested you use in the previous lines, you can search for similar images by contacting one or more of the special online tools that I have indicated to you in my guides on how to search for images come on how to download free images and in my article on images to download.
Of course, what you find in these posts are not solutions designed exclusively to find similar images to each other, but they could still be useful in carrying out your searches. For completeness of information, I therefore suggest that you give him at least a glance.
