The simplest method to transfer data from an Android smartphone to the PC is to connect the two devices together, via USB cable , and use the file manager integrated in Windows or the specific one for macOS, to copy the files by copy and paste. exactly as you would with a USB stick.

To be able to succeed in the enterprise, connect the smartphone to the computer via USB cable , open the Android notification area and tap on the message regarding the USB options , the one on which the wording Device charging via USB is present , or Android system . When you reach the next screen, to ensure that the phone is recognized like an external memory, put the check mark next to the item File transfer , or MTP .

Once this is done, go to your computer and, if you use Windows , start the File Explorer (by clicking on the yellow folder located in the taskbar), then select the item This PC resident on the left sidebar and double-click on the name of the phone.

Now, to access the internal shared memory of the device, open the homonymous folder with a double click; if, on the other hand, the files of your interest reside on the microSD, go instead to the SD Card , External Memory or SD Card folder . To transfer files and folders from your smartphone to your computer, use the classic copy and paste.

On Mac , however, it is not possible to use the Finder but you must download a free program, called Android File Transfer , capable of allowing access to the memory of Android devices. To download it, connected to this website , click on the Download Now button and, once you have the .dmg file , open it.

Once this is done, drag the Android File Transfer icon into the MacOS Applications folder , open the latter and start the program (responding affirmatively to the warning that is shown): if everything went smoothly, you should see, on the screen of the software, all the folders contained in the memory of the Android phone. To copy one or more files, simply drag and drop it to your Mac desktop, or to any other folder on your computer you prefer.

Furthermore, you will be pleased to know that some smartphone (and tablet) manufacturers offer some specific management programs , which allow you to backup device data in a few clicks and automate this operation.

The first program can be installed on any computer with Windows or macOS; the second software, with slightly more advanced features (eg. clipboard and screen sharing), is only compatible with Huawei phones equipped with an NFC chip, and with some laptops from the manufacturer.
