When you signed up for Facebook, you would never have imagined making so many friendships with the users of this social network, nor of strengthening relations with relatives and friends that you have not seen for years because they have moved to other cities. The fact is that now you spend entire afternoons chatting on Facebook and often have very positive conversations, which change your days for the better.

I bet you care a lot about these conversations and have not deleted them to keep them as a “memory”. Indeed, since you are afraid of losing them, you would like to know how to save facebook conversations on pc, so you can reread them whenever you want without having to worry about deleting them by mistake. Well, if this is your request today, you can count yourself lucky, because you are in exactly the right place and, what’s more, at the right time!

In the next paragraphs, in fact, I will show you in detail how you can save Facebook chats on your PC. I already anticipate that, basically, you can do it in two ways: by downloading the data archive relating to your account and by taking a screenshot of the conversations (a rather “rudimentary” procedure, but still effective). Are you ready to get started? Well, then let’s not waste any more precious time and let’s get straight to the point. Enjoy the reading!

Download the Facebook archive

Download the Facebook archive is the best way to save all the conversations you have had on the social network founded by Mark Zuckerberg in one go. In addition to conversations, the download tool made available by Facebook allows you to save all the data concerning your account: from photos to comments, through shared posts, the moments in which you have logged into your account and much even more.

To download the Facebook archive on your PC and, therefore, also the conversations you have had with your friends, connect to the main page of the social network and log in to your account: enter yours e-mail or yours telephone number and the password in the corresponding text fields and click on the blue button Log in. Once logged in, click on the symbol arrow pointing down (top right, in the blue bar, next to the “?” symbol) and select the item Settings from the menu that appears.

On the page that opens, click on the entry General on the left and then click on the link Download a copy located at the bottom of the pane General account settings (in which your name and surname, your username, etc. are present).

At this point, click on the button Start my archive, type the password of your Facebook account in the box that appears and then click on the blue button Send; then click on the blue button Start my archive to start creating the archive with all your data.

You should now be shown a message telling you that the process of recovering your account data may take some time (even a few hours) and you will be notified by email as soon as the archive download is available.

As soon as Facebook has completed the archive creation process, an email will be sent to the mailbox linked to your account which will have as its subject Your Facebook download is ready.

The email also tells you that private data is stored in the archive and therefore you should take care to keep it safe (eg an external hard drive) so as not to expose yourself to unnecessary risks. Please don’t ignore this important piece of advice. Another important thing: you can download the copy of your data that has been prepared within a few days of sending this e-mail (otherwise you will have to repeat the process all over again); proceed, therefore, to download your archive as soon as possible.

The message that the Facebook team sent you contains, above all, the link through which you can proceed to download your archive: click on it. On the page that opens, click on the green button Download archive, type the password of your Facebook account in the text field next to the wording Password and then click the blue button Send to start the procedure.

At this point, Facebook may ask you to provide some information regarding your identity (e.g. recognize some friends in the photos) in order to start the download of the zip archive containing your data, precisely because it wants to make sure that it was really you who requested it. the download. Therefore, follow the instructions on the screen to complete the procedure by which Facebook will be able to “recognize you” and click the button again Download now.

As soon as the download is completed, you will find all the data concerning your account (as I said earlier, with this procedure not only the conversations are downloaded but everything that is attributable to your account) in the archive Then open the zip archive you just downloaded, extract the contents on your PC and start the file index.html placed in the extracted folder (facebook-username).

Now, on the web page that has opened in the browser, you can view all the data of your Facebook account, which are organized in a practical menu consisting of the links that you see on the left side of the page.

To view conversations related to your Facebook account, click the link Messages and, on the page that opens, you will see the list of people you chatted with on Facebook: click on a user’s name to view the messages you have exchanged (starting with the most recent message).

Obviously, if you want to see all the other information related to your profile (friends, video, photo, events, etc.) all you have to do is click on the respective links located on the left side of the page, as I mentioned earlier.

Save Facebook conversations via screenshots

can save Facebook conversations on your PC also by taking screenshots, especially if you are interested in saving individual chats.

I won’t explain to you in the next few paragraphs how to take screenshots using the built-in default functions on Windows and macOS (obviously if you don’t know how to do this you can read the tutorial I just linked to) and for a very simple reason: there are third-party solutions – in this case some free browser extensions – which allow you to “photograph” entire Web pages by automatically scrolling the latter and capturing even those portions of the screen that are not displayed. You will agree with me that these are much more comfortable and practical solutions for taking screenshots of your Facebook chats.

One of the most popular browser extensions for taking screenshots of entire web pages is Nimbus Screenshot & Video Recording. It is a free extension available for the Google Chrome browser, thanks to which it is possible not only to capture entire Internet pages, but also to record videos of what happens on the screen, resize them and so on.

To download Nimbus Screenshot, first start the Google Chrome browser on your PC, connected to page of the Chrome Web Store that hosts the extension and then click on the buttons add And Add extension. After installing the add-on, connect to the Messenger login page and log in to your account (if required)

Once logged in, locate the conversation you want to save on your PC, click on it to open it, scroll up the chat so as to get to its starting point (or, in any case, to the point from which you want to “start” the screenshot) and click onNimbus Icon Screenshot (top right). In the menu that appears on the screen, select the item Whole page and, “as if by magic”, the entire chat will be screened.

On the page that opens in the browser, you can optionally edit the screenshot (adding arrow, lines and so on) and then save it by clicking on the green button Done (top right) and selecting the item Save as image (or, alternatively, print the screenshot or save it to Google Drive by clicking on the respective buttons). Easier than that ?!
