How to reset iPod: You have been trying to listen to music from your iPod for days but apparently there is no way, the device continues to jam and give strange signs of malfunction. Before giving for sure the fact that the last hour of your beloved music player has now arrived, there is one thing you can do to try to fix the now critical situation: reset iPod .

By putting in place a special procedure it is in fact possible to reset iPod and therefore solve all the various and any bugs and errors that could create slowdowns and problems. Reset iPod classic and older generation nano

If it is your intention to find out how to reset iPod and you have the classic or nano model belonging to the 5th generation or lower, the first thing you need to do is move the player switch to Hold and then return it to the initial position.

Once this is done, simultaneously press the Menu button and the central selection button of the device for about eight seconds, then wait for the Apple logo to appear on the iPod screen. If nothing happens try to repeat the procedure until you see the apple logo.

Keep in mind that if the iPod is locked or does not turn on, it may be paused or the Hold switch is in the locked position. In this case, a padlock symbol will be displayed on the screen. To unlock the iPod slide the Hold switch to the unlocked position and then check the screen.

Reset latest generation iPod nano

If you have a 6th generation iPod nano and want to reset it, the first thing you need to do is press and hold the sleep / wake button and the volume button at the same time for at least eight seconds or until the Apple logo appears on the display.

In the event that doing this does not happen, try to repeat the steps I have indicated, however, taking care to connect the iPod nano to a power supply inserted in a power outlet or to the computer, turned on and not in the stop state.

If you have a 7th generation iPod instead, you can reset it by keeping the Home and sleep / wake buttons pressed simultaneously until the screen turns completely black.

Once this is done, after a few moments the apple logo will appear on the screen followed by the Home screen.

Also in this case if the execution of the steps I have indicated to you have no effect, I suggest you try to repeat them taking care to connect the iPod nano to a power supply inserted in a power outlet or to the computer, turned on and not in stop state.

Reset iPod shuffle

If you want to find out how to reset iPod and what you have is an iPod shuffle, the first thing you need to do is disconnect the device from the computer if it is connected to the latter and move the player switch to OFF . Keep in mind that when the iPod shuffle is turned off the green strip next to the on and off switch is not visible.

Now wait about ten seconds then move the switch to the playback position in order or random . Once this is done the green strip will be visible in both positions. Please note that in case you are in possession of a 2nd or 4th generation iPod shuffle in order to see the green strip, you will need to move the switch to the ON position .

Reset iPod touch

Reset iPod with iTunes

If despite the tests done to reset iPod by pressing the buttons on the device, the problems encountered do not seem to be resolved, it is possible to carry out an alternative procedure using the computer and iTunes.

If you have a Windows PC and there is no iTunes on your computer, you can remedy it immediately by following the instructions in my guide on how to download iTunes . If, on the other hand, you have a Mac, iTunes is already installed and it is the default multimedia player on your computer and therefore you don’t have to do anything.

After installing iTunes if it is not present on the computer in use, proceed to connect the iPod in your possession to the computer using the special cable supplied when purchasing the device. The cable should be used by inserting the thinner end into the iPod and the thicker end into a USB port on the computer.

Once done, iTunes will start automatically on your computer. After viewing the player window presses the icon depicting an iPod present at the top and wait for the screen called iPod username  (instead of username you will find the name you assigned to your iPod) is visible.
