How to remove the background with Photoshop online

If you want remove the background with Photoshop onlineknow that you can rely on Photoshop on the web, the official online version of Photoshop, which however is paid: only those who have subscribed to the Creative Cloud subscription can use it. Alternatively, you can rely on free third-party solutions, such as Photopea: a free web application running without registration and without installing plugins in the browser (since it is developed in HTML5).

To use it, go to hers home page and, if necessary, translate the service interface into Italian by selecting the item Italian from the menu More> Language. Then import the image to retouch into the site by selecting the item You open from the menu File.

Now, open the menu Selection (above) and click on the entry Magic Cut present in the latter. On the page that is shown to you, you should see the main subject of your photo cut out and with no background. From the tests I have been able to run, Photopea’s “smart” cropping function works quite well. However, if you notice “smudging”, you can tell the service algorithm which portions of the photo to keep or not.

To do this, select the size and the hardness of the brush through the menu located at the top left, click on green square (top left) and “color” the subject of your interest. By clicking on the red square, on the other hand, you can “color” the area to be eliminated, that is the background. To delete any erroneous “brush strokes” made on the photo click on gray square and delete the areas you have mistakenly marked green or red.

To choose the type of background with which to replace the one you have decided to remove, click on square divided into four (top right), if you want to set the background transparent. Click on the instead white square if you want to set a white background or on black square to set a black background.

On the right, you will be able to preview the final result. When you are satisfied with the result, click on the button OK (top right) and, if you don’t need to make any other corrections to the photo, open the menu Fileselect the item Export as from the latter and choose the output format you want to obtain (eg. PNG or GIF if you want to preserve the transparent background).

Via the tool Analyze (top left), it is possible to remove the background completely automatically, but from the tests I have done this function does not always return satisfactory results.
