How to reinstall Windows 8: Has your Windows 8 PC started messing around? Is everything going very slow and often error messages appear whose origin you don’t know? If the situation, as it seems, is serious, you can try to fix things by reinstalling the operating system.

How do you say? Are you afraid of making a mess? Do not worry. Starting with Windows 8, Microsoft has made the recovery of its systems much easier and more immediate than in the past. Try it and you will realize it.

Below you will find everything you need to know, so no excuses: take a few minutes of free time and try to reinstall windows 8 by following the procedure below. Also applies to Windows 8.1.

First I would like to explain how to reinstall Windows 8 using the system reinitialization function, which allows you to restore the computer to factory settings without deleting the data saved on the hard disk (photos, videos, music etc.) nor the downloaded applications from the Windows Store.

If you want to opt for this “soft” path, access the  Windows Start Screen , search for the term  PC Settings and click on the icon of the same name that appears in the search results. At this point, select the items Update and restore> Restore  from the left sidebar and click on the button To start located under the wording Reinitialize the PC keeping your files .

If you can’t find the right option, search directly for the term  reinitialize , select the Settings item   from the right sidebar and click on the Reinitialize PC icon   that appears on the left.

If required, insert the diskette or USB drive with the Windows installation files into the computer and click first on Next and then on  Reset  to restart the PC and allow Windows to return its settings to the initial state.

The operation will last at least 10-15 minutes and when you re-enter Windows you will be shown a list of the applications removed from the PC following the recovery activity: these are the software installed outside the Windows Store.

Now let’s see how to reinstall Windows 8 in a more drastic way, that is, by deleting the operating system and all the data on the PC. To do this, go to the Start Screen , search for the term  PC Settings and click on the icon of the same name that appears in the search results. Then select the items Update and restore> Restore  from the left sidebar and click on the button To start located under the words Remove all and reinstall Windows .

If prompted, insert the diskette or USB drive with the Windows installation files into your computer and click Next . Then choose whether to format the computer by removing only your files (recommended in most cases) or to perform a complete cleaning of the unit (procedure to choose if you want to resell the computer) and click on the Reset button to start the reinstallation of the operating system.

The procedure for simple formatting takes at least 15–20 minutes, the more advanced one can go on for hours. However, you will not have to move a finger and you will have to wait for the computer to restart with the new installation of Windows ready to use.

Of course, remember to make a backup of all your data before formatting your computer. If you don’t know how, try taking a look at this list of backup programs that I have prepared for you.
