How to quote someone on Facebook: Every now and then you get notifications where you are notified that someone has mentioned you on Facebook, that is, he added some sort of link to your profile in a content he posted on your profile. You would like to do the same thing with your friends, but you still haven’t figured out how to take advantage of this feature of the popular social network. Don’t worry: with today’s guide, I’ll explain it to you how to quote someone on Facebook.

I already tell you that this is a very simple operation to complete, whether you intend to mention a user in a post, in a comment or in multimedia content, such as a photo or video. You just have to learn how to “move” for each type of content in which you want to “tag” your friends. In many cases, I’ll tell you right away, you just need to use the “@” symbol followed by the name of the person to tag and that’s it, as long as the people to tag are on your friends list or in groups you are members (or are administrators of pages or groups to which they are subscribed).

So, are you already in the “command posts”, ready to start? Very good! Make yourself comfortable, take all the time you need to concentrate on reading this tutorial, scrupulously follow the “tips” that I will give you and you will see that you will not have the slightest problem in mentioning other users on Facebook.

Mention someone on Facebook

As I mentioned at the beginning, however quote someone on Facebook, just type the “@” symbol before the name of the user you want to tag. Let’s find out more about how to mention other people in posts, comments, photos and videos. The steps below have been performed from the PC, but you will have no problem replicating them even from your smartphone or tablet, since the Facebook “tagging” procedure is almost identical on all platforms. Now we can really get started: log into your Facebook account on the device of your choice and let’s go!

Post

To tag other Facebook users in post, all you have to do is start the creation of a new post, tag the desired users and then proceed to publish it.

Press the text field What are you thinking about? located at the top of the main page of the social network (or your profile) and type the symbol @ followed by user’s name you want to mention. For example, if you want to quote me, you have to write @. If there are other people you want to mention, all you have to do is repeat the operation I have just described to you. Simple, right?

When entering the names of the people you want to tag in the comments, I recommend that you help yourself with the menu that appears when you type the “@” symbol, in order to avoid tagging the wrong users. As soon as you have finished tagging users to include in the post, add some text or images (the tags can be inserted anywhere in the post, not necessarily at the beginning) and publish it. As soon as the post is published, the people you mentioned will receive a notification informing them that they have been tagged in your post.

If you decide to remove one of the people mentioned from the post, proceed as follows: press the symbol (…) located in the upper right corner of the post, select the item Edit post, delete the name of the friend you don’t want to mention and press the button Save to save the changes made.

Comments

As I mentioned earlier, it is possible to mention other Facebook users also in the comments released under a post. The procedure to follow is quite similar to the one I indicated in the previous lines.

First, locate the post in which you want to leave a comment, press the box Write a comment… or on the voice Reply (if you want to reply to a user who has already commented), type the symbol @ and enter the user’s name you want to mention. To mention other people, all you have to do is repeat the operation I have just described to you.

To avoid tagging the wrong person, I recommend that you select the names of the people to tag directly from the menu that appears when you type the “@” symbol. When you have tagged one or more users, type the rest of the comment (the tag can be inserted anywhere in the comment) and then press the button Enter to make it public. As soon as this happens, the users mentioned in the comment will receive a notification informing them that you have tagged them.

In case you want to remove the mention of one of the users tagged in the comment, click on the icon (…) located next to the comment in question, click on the item Edit …, delete the tagged user name and save the changes made.

Photo

You want to mention other users on one photo that you posted on Facebook? This is also possible. To begin with, locate the photo which contains the faces of the friends you want to tag, click on it, select the item Tag the photo (the symbol oflabel), click on the point in the photo where the face of the user you want to tag is present and write in the field Type a name the name of the person you want to mention. You just have to repeat the operation for the other people who may be present in the shot and then press on the item Adding tags completed which is located at the bottom.

Do you want to mention the users portrayed in a photo that you have not yet posted on Facebook? To proceed, click the button Photo / video present in the box What are you thinking about? and upload the photo to post. Then fill in the field Who were you with? located in correspondence with the wording With, type the user’s name you want to mention in the photo and then select it from the menu that opens.

In case you want to mention more than one person, repeat the procedure I indicated (if necessary, also add the place where the shot was taken and other additional information) and publish the photo.

In both cases, as soon as you have saved the changes made to the photo, users who have been tagged will be notified of this via a notification. In case of second thoughts, to remove the tag added to a photo, click on it, press the button Edit, click the (x) located under the name of the user you want to remove the mention and clicking again on Edit.

Video

If you are interested in tagging video, locate the video you published on Facebook and on which you intend to act, select it, press the button (…), choose the item Edit the video from the menu that opens, type the names of the users you want to tag in the text field In this video and, when you’re done, press the button Save– All the people you tagged in the video will get a notification.

Want to mention some friends featured in a video that you haven’t posted on Facebook yet? To proceed, click the button Photo / video present in the box What are you thinking about? and upload the movie you want to act on. Then fill in the text field Who were you with? located in correspondence with the wording With, type the user’s name you want to mention in the photo and select it from the menu that opens. If you want to mention more than one user, repeat the procedure I indicated and, as soon as you are ready, publish the video to make the users mentioned receive the notification of the tag.

In case of second thoughts, undo the mention you added to the video: click on the button Edit, presses on (x) located next to the name you want to remove and, finally, press the button Edit completed.

Other useful information

It should be noted that tagging someone in a post does not mean automatically making the post appear in their diary. This setting, which is active by default in Facebook, can in fact be disabled through the privacy options of the social network: I told you about it in depth in my tutorial on how not to get tagged on Facebook. Therefore, if your friends have disabled the automatic appearance of posts in which they are tagged in their diaries, you will not see your content automatically appear on their personal pages.
