In this way you could optimize the working time and be much faster. Well, know that it is possible to do it and also in a very easy way.
If you wonder how, read on. In this guide I’m going to explain in detail how to put the double screen on different devices, using the features implemented within the various operating systems present today on the square.
I assure you that you will not need any particular previous knowledge: you will only have to follow the steps of this guide and, in the blink of an eye, you will have all your files organized comfortably on the screen. If you are ready, we can finally proceed. At the end of the tutorial you will become a true multitasking expert and will be much more productive than before!
How to put the dual screen on the computer
Know that putting dual screens on your PC is really easy. You will not need any particular program, no matter what type of platform you have. The solutions I’m about to tell you about are valid, in fact, both for Windows 10 and for macOS. So I would say to start immediately to get busy, what do you think?
How to put dual screens on Windows 10
You should know that Windows 10 has introduced a system for managing windows, called Snap Assist , which allows you to organize the windows open on the desktop quickly and easily. Basically, this feature is already active on all systems, but if not, let me explain how to activate it.
First, click on the Start button (the flag icon located in the lower left corner of the screen), search for Multitasking settings in the menu that opens and select the first search result. In the window that is proposed to you, check the items Tile windows and the other three to follow.
Now that everything is ready, open two or more windows, no matter which ones exactly, then proceed by placing the cursor of your mouse on the top of a window at will and drag it towards one of the edges of the screen. Ideally you need to reach the edge of the monitor with the cursor while you have the window selected. Once this is done, you will notice a short animation that will highlight the screen area with a semi-transparency: this indicates that you can release your finger from the left mouse button.
Once you release the pressure, on the side of the screen opposite to the one where you dragged the window you will see the thumbnails of the other open windows on the desktop : select the one you want to place next to the one you have already moved to one side of the monitor. By doing so, your screen will “split in two”, proportioning the two windows in half and allowing you to see them both at the same time. If you wish, you can resize the two windows at the same time by placing your cursor on the line separating the windows and, holding down the click, moving it left and right.
Alternatively, know that you can also achieve the same result with keyboard shortcuts: Win + Right Arrow to tile a window on the right or Win + Left Arrow to tile a window on the left; subsequently you can also use the combinations Win + Arrow up and Win + Arrow already to halve the height of the selected window and, therefore, potentially obtain four windows side by side at the same time on the desktop.
In case you don’t find Snap Assist particularly interesting, I would recommend Microsoft’s free PowerToys application , now available on GitHub , which allows you to manage all windows at the same time through the use of customizable templates and grids (the function in question is called Fancy Zones ).
How to put dual screens on Mac
Using the dual screen , or split screen, on Mac is very simple. The macOS operating system includes, in fact, an extremely intuitive function for tiling windows in full-screen mode. Be aware, however, that it is not possible to use this feature with all applications (there are some that do not support this mode).
Proceed, therefore, by opening two windows and check that, by moving the cursor on the green dot located in the upper left corner of both, an icon appears with two arrows pointing in opposite directions , ie the full screen option; if there is only the + symbol , it means that the selected application does not support full screen mode and, therefore, the possibility of being automatically placed side by side with another window from macOS.
At this point, make a long click on the green dot of the first window you want to place side by side and a menu will appear in which you can choose whether to place the selected window in full screen, on the left or on the right.
Once you have chosen the side on which you want to move the first window, you will have the possibility to choose the second window to be placed next to it; proceed, then, by clicking on it and in less than a second, you will see your screen split into two windows of the same size.
If you want to resize the two windows, you will simply have to hold down the left mouse button after placing the cursor on the central line that divides the two windows and move it left and right.
If you want to tile windows without putting them in full screen – thus also having the possibility to work with applications that do not support full screen viewing – you can try applications like Magnet (for a fee, costs around 6 euros) which allows you to tile windows. and sort them in various custom layouts without putting them in full screen.
How to connect two displays to the computer
How do you say? You came across this guide because you were looking for a tutorial on how to connect two monitors to your computer . Don’t worry: to do everything you will only need two monitors, two cables (which can be HDMI, DisplayPort, DVI or otherwise, depending on the compatibility of your computer ports and displays) and of course your computer.
To split the screen on the two monitors, simply connect the cables to both outputs of your computer’s video card and, of course, to the two monitors. At this point, depending on the operating system you are working on, you will need to access the control panel of your operating system and decide which monitor to use as the main screen.
If you want to know in detail how to do it, I suggest you read the tutorial I dedicated to the topic.
How to put the double screen on smartphones and tablets
In a few moments I will teach you how to put the double screen on smartphones and tablets . The process itself is really simple, but with limitations that may vary based on the device and operating system being used. Here are all the details.
How to put dual screen on Android
Before showing you how to split screen on Android , you need to know that this feature has been fully implemented by version 7.0 of the operating system. So make sure your phone or tablet is up to date and has the right operating system.
Once you have ensured that your phone can use split screen mode, the process to follow is very simple. I used a OnePlus 6T to make the tutorial, but the indications are valid more or less for all devices. All you have to do is start a couple of apps and access the multitasking menu by pressing the square icon located at the bottom of the screen (depending on the model, the access mode to recent apps may change; you may need, for example , to scroll the menu bar up).
From the recent apps menu, you must therefore press the three dots icon , at the top right on the thumbnail of an app, and select the item relating to the split screen ; finally, you have to select the second application to start in shared screen and that’s it.
Similarly to the computer, once you have placed two applications on the screen, you can resize them by touching the central bar that divides them and moving it up or down (or left and right, if you prefer to rotate the screen). To remove one of the two screens, just drag the central bar until the selected application covers the entire screen of the device.
If you are using a Samsung device , I reassure you by letting you know that this feature is also integrated in the latter; depending on the model, however, some additional tools may be available, such as the ability to split the screen into more than two parts, and as a result, the way you do it will also change.
In your case, it may be enough to access the recent applications , by pressing the respective button or by executing the respective gesture and, once in the menu, touch the icon of the application you want to divide. At this point, from the context menu, select the option Open in split screen view and choose the second application to be shown on the display.
Furthermore, on the Play Store and on alternative stores you can find numerous applications that allow you to split the Android screen, such as Split Screen Launcher : thanks to it you can for example play your favorite game and watch a video at the same time. You can also define templates to simultaneously launch the apps you want directly on the shared screen. More info here.
How to put dual screen on iPad
If you have an iPad it could certainly be convenient for you to use the dual screen feature, so as to speed up your work and your Internet searches, perhaps to save time, or simply to watch your favorite videos while you write. This feature is implemented on all iPads equipped with iOS 9 and later; however it may not be available for all apps (like on macOS, not all apps support split screen).
First, open an application of your choice (eg Safari ). Proceed, then, recalling the Dock bar with a light swipe from the bottom of the screen to the top (careful, do not drag it to the maximum; just enough to bring up the iPad Dock). From here, select the second app you want to split screen; then press and hold on the respective icon and, if your iPad has the functionality for the split screen, you will have the possibility to drag the icon to one of the two edges of the screen. Choose the one you prefer, left or right, and when you’re ready, release your finger.
At this point you will find yourself having both apps on the screen of your device, which you can resize by dragging the central bar that divides them left and right, just like on Android or on your computer. I told you, it’s really very easy.
Alternatively, I would like to point out the possibility of using some applications in slide over , that is, with floating squares on the screen, and to play videos in Picture-in-Picture mode: you can find everything explained in my tutorial on how to split the screen on iPad.
How to put dual screen on iPhone
Do you have an iPhone ? Sorry to tell you, but there is no official method implemented by Apple to use dual screen on iPhone.
The only thing you can do is take advantage of the Picture-in-Picture (introduced in iOS 14) to watch a video while doing something else or, alternatively, you can install third-party web browsers that allow you to view two pages side by side. .
Among the latter I point out Split , which allows you to view two pages in split screen mode for free and without invasive banners.
For all the details on how to use two apps at the same time on the iPhone, you can read the tutorial I dedicated to the topic.
