Preliminary operations

Connect PS4 Internet

Before going into detail on how to play online on Minecraft PS4 , I think you might be interested to know more about this possibility.

Well, the PlayStation 4 version of the Mojang title allows you to invite friends to your game or to reach their worlds . However, before you can do this, the console must be properly configured to take advantage of the online features. Put simply, you need to connect your PS4 to the Internet and have a PlayStation Network account with an active PlayStation Plus subscription .

How do you say? Haven’t configured your PS4 yet? Well, then the first thing you need to do is connect the console to the Internet , choosing between Ethernet or wireless network . In the first case, you simply have to connect the PS4 to the router via an Ethernet cable and you are ready.

Speaking of the connection via Wi-Fi , just go to the upper toolbar (the icons on the main console screen) and press the X button on the controller on the Settings icon (toolbox). Then, go to the path Network> Set Internet connection> Use Wi-Fi> Typical , select the name of the Wi-Fi network to which you want to connect the console and enter the appropriate access key . At this point, the system will check the connection and tell you if everything is working properly.

After making sure that the PlayStation 4 is connected to the Internet, it is time to move on to the configuration of the PlayStation Network profile , which is the free account that allows you to access all the online services related to the Sony console.

Sign in to PlayStation Network

If you have not yet signed up for the PSN, you can do so by going to the Settings> PlayStation Network / Account Management path and pressing the pad’s X button first on Sign in to PlayStation Network and then on New PlayStation Network User? Create an account .

After that, simply follow the on-screen directions . These first two steps, that is the connection to the Internet of the console and the configuration of the PSN account, are very simple and guided, but for any type of doubt I invite you to consult my guide on how to access the PlayStation Network , where you can find all the details of the case.

Once you have successfully logged in to the PSN profile, you must sign up for a PlayStation Plus subscription , so you can play online in the PS4 version of Minecraft. Don’t worry though: if you’ve just registered for a PSN account, you have the option to activate a free trial of the service.

To proceed, then go to the upper toolbar (the icons on the main screen of the PS4) and select the + yellow icon located at the top left. At this point, press the X button of the controller on Sign up or renew the subscription and choose one of the available plans : 14 days , to activate the free trial period (only if you have never used it in the past); 1 month , for the monthly pass (7.99 €); 3 months , for the quarterly subscription (€ 24.99) or 12 months , for the annual subscription (€ 59.99).

Try PlayStation Plus

After selecting the subscription that best suits your needs, press the Yes button , configure a valid payment method and fill out the relevant form . Once this is done, press the pad’s X button first on OK and then on Accept and continue , so as to immediately enable the subscription.

How to play online on Minecraft for PS4

After explaining in detail how to set up your PlayStation 4 to play online, I’d say you’re ready to proceed. Here are the procedures for inviting a friend to your game or for accessing their world.

How to invite a friend

How to invite a friend to Minecraft PS4

The easiest way to play with a friend through the PS4 version of Minecraft is to invite them directly to their game.

To do this, open Minecraft , start a game and press the Options button on the pad. After that, press the Invite to play button , on the right, and choose the friend to send the invitation to .

I remind you that the game you are inviting your friend to has the multiplayer enabled . Additionally, you must have provided at least Subscriber level permissions to allow the guest to break blocks and attack creatures . You can modify these options through the Multiplayer tab when creating the world or by modifying an existing one (you can do this by going to the path Play> Worlds and pressing on the pencil icon ).

Perfect, now you’re done: you just have to wait for the other person to accept the invitation and join you in your game. Of course, your friend must also have an active PlayStation Plus subscription in order to play online.

How to access the world of a friend

How to access the world of a friend

How do you say? Would you like to join an open world created by your friend? No problem, I’ll explain how to do it right away.

To proceed, open Minecraft , press the Play button , move to the Friends tab and search for your friend’s world . Then just press on the name of the player you want to reach and you’re done.

In case your friend has a console other than PS4 , you can try to find it simply by pressing the Find cross-platform friends button and entering his Gamertag . In this way, the game will save its profile and you should see it in the various screens of the worlds and in those related to the invitations.

If you want to access a server instead, just move to the Server tab and follow the instructions on the screen. However, in some cases, it may not be possible to use this feature, since the developers are still working on it. The community has managed to find methods to access the servers available on PC anyway, but I do not recommend following these procedures and waiting for more official details.

In case you and your friend are in the same physical location , I remind you that you can access the split screen mode locally. To do this, simply connect 2 controllers to the PS4, accessing a secondary local profile , start a game and press first the X button and then the Options button of the second pad.
