How to install operating system from USB: You have to install Windows on a PC without a CD / DVD player and you have no idea how to do it? Would you like to install again OS X on your Mac or that of a friend but you don’t have a copy of the operating system on DVD? If the answer to these and other similar questions is affirmative, know that you do not have to worry because it is not an impossible undertaking. In fact, to carry out these operations it is sufficient install operating system from USB.
By following the instructions that I am going to provide you with in the following lines and resorting to the use of the resources that I am going to suggest to you, as well as many other users, you will be able to create a bootable pendrive and, consequently, to install an operating system from USB. How do you say? Are you afraid it is too complicated and do you think that maybe it’s time to forget it? But no, you are very wrong, really! Contrary to appearances, installing an operating system from USB is in fact a very simple operation to perform, just knowing where to “get your hands”.
Having clarified this if you are therefore interested in finding out what steps you need to take to be able to install the operating system from USB, I suggest you take a few minutes of free time, settle yourself in front of the computer and concentrate on reading the indications that I am about to provide you. Ready? Yes? Very well, then let’s proceed.
Install Windows from USB
If you intend to install the operating system from USB and if the OS in question is Windows, the first thing you need to do is get one pendrive of sufficient capacity, personally I suggest you find one with at least 4 GB of free space. Also make sure that the stick to be used is empty or that in any case there are no important files on it since to use it you will need to format it.
In addition to a key of sufficient capacity to be able to install an operating system from USB, you need theISO image of the version of Windows you are interested in. If you don’t know where to find the Windows ISO image, I suggest you look for it on the sites that allow its legal download (in order to install it, you will then have to use your license key). After having found all the necessary to be able to install Windows from USB click here in order to connect to the main page of the software Windows 7 USB / DVD Download tool. It is a free program from Microsoft that serves precisely to create a USB stick for the installation of Windows. Once the software page is displayed, press the button download to start the download process of the same on your computer. Be careful not to be fooled by the name! Windows 7 USB / DVD Download tool is a fully functional software with all versions of the Microsoft operating system, both before and after Windows 7!
When the download is complete, open the installation package Windows7-USB-DVD-Download-Tool-Installer-en-us.exe now present on your computer and click on first Run, then on Next, Then on install and to conclude on Finish.
Proceed now by double-clicking on the Windows 7 USB / DVD Download tool icon that has been added to the desktop or search for the application by accessing the section in which all the programs and applications of the visible menu are grouped by pressing the button Start Windows or by logging into Start Screen.
Now click on the button Browse located on its main screen to select the Windows ISO image to be used to create the bootable USB. Continue by clicking on first Next, then on USB Device and finally on Begin Copying in order to start copying the files from the ISO image to the USB stick.
Once the copying procedure has started, you will see a green progress bar appearing in the program window. Upon reaching the 100% you can finally take advantage of the bootable stick just created to install the operating system from USB.
At this point, if you intend to use the pendrive to install the operating system from USB on the computer in use, leave the latter connected to the multimedia station, restart the PC, wait for all the necessary files to be loaded and then follow the installation wizard Windows that is shown to you on the screen.
If, on the other hand, you wish to use the key to install the operating system from USB on a high computer, disconnect it from the PC in use, connect it to the multimedia station on which you want to act, making sure it is turned off, start the latter by pressing the appropriate power button on the case, wait for all the necessary files to be loaded, wait for the Windows installation procedure to start and then refer to the simple indications that are shown on the screen.
If the procedure to install the operating system from USB should not be started and if the operating system already in use on the computer should normally start instead, you will have to proceed by configuring the BIOS to boot, i.e. boot, from USB devices . Install OS X from USB
Are you interested in how to install OS X from USB? Yes? Well, then the first thing you need to do is get one pendrive of sufficient capacity, personally I suggest you find one with at least 8 GB of free space. Also make sure that the key to use is empty or that in any case there are no important files on it since in order to use it you will need to format it.
In addition to a key of sufficient capacity to be able to install the operating system from USB you need theISO image the version of the operating system you want to install. If you don’t know where to find the OS X ISO image, I suggest you look for it on the sites that allow its legal download.
Alternatively you can create the ISO image of OS X by downloading the latest version of the new operating system on your Mac. To do this, access Mac App Store by pressing on its icon in the Launchpad, if required enter the password for your Apple account and then click on the tab purchased placed at the top. Proceed by clicking the button Download which is shown to you in correspondence with the version of OS X you are interested in and associated with your account and then wait for the procedure to download the operating system on your Mac to be completed. Keep in mind that the download of OS is quite “imposing” which is why in order to complete and take some time it can vary based on what is the speed of the Internet connection you use.
After getting everything you need to install the USB operating system click here to connect immediately to the download page of DiskMaker X. It is a free application that allows you to create a bootable USB stick of OS X.
Then wait a few moments for the application’s Web page to be visible and then press on the item Download DiskMaker X version number (x.x MB) (instead of version number the version of the application is indicated and instead of x.x you will find the weight of the same) and wait for the download of DiskMaker X to be started and completed. When the download is complete, click on the file that has been downloaded to your computer and drag the program icon to the folder Applications as it is also shown on the screen.
Proceed now going to connect the USB stick in your possession to one of the USB ports of the Mac and then press the Launchpad annexed to Dock and then click on the DiskMaker X icon.
Once the program is started, press the button referring to the version of OS X of your interest attached to the window displayed on the screen, press Use this copy and then click the button An 8 GB USB thumb drive. Finally, click on the button Erase then create disk to delete any files on the USB stick that you have chosen to use and to start the procedure for creating a pendrive by which you can install the operating system from USB.
Then enter the password of the Administrator account of your Mac and then wait until a specific warning window appears indicating that the procedure by which to create a bootable pendrive has been completed.
At this point if it is your intention to use the key in question to install the operating system from USB by acting on the Mac in use, restart the computer leaving the pendrive inserted, hold down the key halt on the keyboard and wait for the selection menu to appear with all the boot devices listed. Then click on Install OS X and wait a few moments for the OS X installation menu to appear. Then press it Disk Utility and click on Go on then select the Mac disk from the left sidebar and then click the button Initialize present at the top right. Then type the name you want to use for the disc in the appropriate text field, choose the option OS X extended (journaled) from the drop down menu Format, select the option GUID partition map from the menu scheme and to finish click on the button first Initialize and then on that end to format the disk. Once completed, go back to the previous menu and click on Install OS X.
If, on the other hand, you intend to use the key to install the operating system from USB, another Mac connects the latter to the computer on which you intend to act, restart it and then follow the instructions that I have already given you in the previous lines.
