After starting it, however, you realized that something is not going as it should, given that your character is moving in spurts. You have therefore noticed that the fps are too low to guarantee an optimal gameplay experience. I note that this is not a connection problem, but one related to your computer hardware, you are rather worried, because you have no idea how to solve this problem.
How do you say? Things are exactly this way and therefore you wonder how to increase the fps on Fortnite PC ? In that case, do not panic: you happened on the right tutorial and at the right time! Over the next few chapters of this tutorial I will give you some tips on how to improve the game experience, through some useful operations, such as checking the system requirements and updating the video card drivers.
Having said that, if you are impatient to find out more and if you can’t wait to start, sit comfortably in front of the computer. Take just a few minutes of free time and carefully read the instructions I am about to give you, so as to understand how to solve the problem you have encountered. At this point, I just have to wish you a good read and, above all, have fun!
Check the system requirements
If you wonder how to increase the fps on Fortnite PC , as you are experiencing frame drops when playing this video game, you must first check if it is a problem due to the fact that the computer you are using and on which you have installed the Epic Games’ Battle Royale does not meet the minimum hardware requirements for proper execution.
That said, refer to the system requirements that I indicate in the following lines, in order to compare them with those of your computer and therefore identify if the cause of the problem is related to insufficient hardware performance.
- CPU: i3 2.4 GHz or equivalent.
- RAM: 4 GB.
- Video card: Intel HD 4000.
- HDD: 15GB of free space.
- Operating system: Windows 7 and above 64bit, macOS Sierra (10.12.6+) with Metal API support.
- Internet connection , to download game files and play online.
- CPU: i5 2.8 GHz.
- RAM: 8GB.
- Video card: Nvidia GTX 660, AMD Radeon HD 7870 DX11 or equivalent.
- VRAM: 2 GB.
- HDD: 20GB (use of an SSD recommended).
- Operating system: Windows 7 and later 64bit, macOS Sierra (10.13.3+) with Metal API support.
In the event that, comparing the minimum and recommended system requirements, you find significant differences, it most likely means that your computer does not meet the sufficient requirements or has difficulties, on the hardware side, such as to make the reproduction of Fortnite incompatible or difficult .
If things are this way, the best suggestion I can give you is to update your computer, purchasing new hardware components, such as the processor or the video card : among the most important elements for running video games that need high performance . I recommend, therefore, in this specific case, to deepen the topic by reading my tutorial on how to assemble a gaming PC .
Update the video card drivers
If you are having a problem on Fortnite due to a drop in frames, it may also be that this is due to a failure to update the video card drivers . In fact, you must know that this procedure is essential even if you have a computer that is performing from the hardware point of view, as failure to update the drivers of the video card could lead to a reduction in the fps in the game.
Having said that, to perform this operation, you must act using the tools integrated in the computer you are using (for example the GeForce Experience panel and the relative Driver section , as regards Nvidia video cards ), in order to correctly perform the driver update for the video card installed on your PC.
Alternatively, you can download the latest version of the drivers by going directly to the website of the manufacturer of the video card you are using. Then connect to the Download section of the Nvidia or AMD website and, through the drop-down menu that is shown to you, identify the model of the video card installed on your computer, to download the latest drivers.
In case you don’t know the model of the video card installed on your PC, don’t worry: you can use third-party software, such as CPU-Z , to get information on the name and model of your video card. In addition, in case of doubts or problems on updating the drivers, you can refer to my tutorial dedicated to the topic, to find out how to deal with the situation.
Do not forget to also update the operating system, as this is essential and drivers are often included in system updates. In this regard, in case you want to know more about how to update the operating system of your PC, refer to my tutorials on how to make updates to Windows and those of macOS .
Change game settings
If you want to increase the fps and, consequently, improve the game performance of Fortnite , another suggestion that I want to give you is that relating to changing the game settings .
In this regard, start Fortnite through its icon or press the Start button , through the Epic Games launcher . Once the game has started, select one of the available modes (for example Battle Royale ), then, after loading, click on the icon ☰ located in the upper right corner and, in the contextual menu, press the gear symbol , to access the Settings menu .
Once this is done, press on the card with the symbol of a monitor relating to the graphic configuration parameters. First of all, set the value 60 fps or a lower number, in correspondence with the wording Frame rate limit , in order to make the fps fixed and more stable.
Now, disable the V-sync and Motion blur voices , which could compromise the quality of the game on the less performing computers from the hardware point of view. Finally, you can lower the graphics quality of the game, to improve performance: then select the Medium or Low quality level . To confirm the changes made, press the Apply button .
Check and repair game files
Another solution that may be useful to solve the problems encountered is to use the tools available in the Fortnite Launcher , to verify and repair the game files .
Having said that, with the video game closed, start the Epic Games Launcher , locate Fortnite among the installed video games and click on the gear icon located next to the word Start . Now, in the contextual menu that is shown to you, click on the item Verify . This will verify and, if necessary, repair the game files.
