Preliminary information

Before delving into the heart of this guide and seeing, together, how to ignore a person on Facebook , I would like to provide you with some preliminary information that will surely be useful to understand what operations to take to achieve your purpose.

If your intentions are to prevent a user from doing a whole range of activities – sending you friend requests, invitations to play or participating in events, messages and so on – the best thing to do is block them.

If, on the other hand, you simply want to stop viewing his posts or block specific actions that he can perform on the social network, you can take advantage of some ad hoc Facebook functions that can be right for you.

You must evaluate the type of block you want to use with a certain user and then act accordingly, following the instructions you find in the following chapters.

Unfollow a person on Facebook

If you want to ignore a user on Facebook, one of the first things you can do is to unfollow them : in this way, you will remain friends with the user in question, but their posts will no longer be offered to you in the feed. Here’s how to proceed on both mobile and computer.

Smartphones and tablets

Unfollow a person on Facebook from smartphones and tablets

To stop following a person on Facebook from  smartphones and tablets , start the official social network app on your Android or iOS device , log into your account (if necessary), type the user’s name in  the search field at the top of your interest and presses on the result corresponding to his profile, in order to go to the latter.

Once you have reached the profile of the person of your interest, tap on the Friends button (the icon of the little man located immediately under his name) and then do the following: if you are using Android , press on the item Do not follow anymore present in the menu that opens; If you use iOS , however, tap the button Follow already  at the top and select the item Stop Following from the menu that pops up. By doing this, the person’s posts will no longer appear in your feed.

Clearly, in case of second thoughts, just go back to the user’s profile, press the icon of the little man and then on the Follow item , to return to follow him.

Computer

Block a person on Facebook

Blocking a person on Facebook is the most effective (and also the most drastic) measure you have to ignore a user on the famous social network. By doing this, in fact, you can prevent the blocked person from tagging you, inviting you to groups or events, sending you messages and seeing what you post in your diary. Let’s see immediately how to proceed.

Smartphones and tablets

Block on Facebook from mobile

If you want to block a user on Facebook by acting from a smartphone or tablet , start the official social network app on your Android or iOS device  and log in to your account. Then tap on the search bar located at the top, type the name of the person you want to block and press on the search result corresponding to his profile, in order to go to the latter.

At this point, tap on the icon of the wheel or of the little man (it depends if the person is your friend on Facebook or not), select the Block item from the screen that opens and confirm the operation by pressing once again on Block .

From this moment on, the user you have decided to block will no longer be able to send you messages, requests to participate in events and so on. Also, if it was on your friends list, its name will no longer be on it.

If you blocked the user in question because he was bothering you, also consider reporting him to Facebook. More info here.

Instead of blocking a user on Facebook, do you simply want to prevent them from sending you messages? In this case, you can block it on Messenger : to do this, all you have to do is start the Messenger app on your Android or iOS device , open the conversation of your interest and tap on the user’s name , located at the top .

Before explaining how to proceed both from mobile and from PC, I would like to tell you that if you want to block invitations from a specific person, you should act as a computer, as the Facebook app simply allows you to block all notifications from the app and games.
