How to highlight a color with Photoshop on a computer
If you want to learn how to highlight a color with Photoshop, the first thing you need to do is start Adobe’s famous photo editing program and import the photo you intend to edit into it. Then you have to select the subject whose color you want to highlight and use the tools of the program to get the desired result.
First, then, select the item You open… from the menu File Photoshop (top left) and select the photo of your interest. Once you have uploaded the image in question, go to the menu Layer> New Adjustment Layer> Hue / Saturation and click on the button OKto apply a new adjustment layer to the image.
Next, remove the color from the photo by moving the bar indicator to the bottom left Saturationand set the black how primary color in the color palette.
At this point, select it brush tool from the toolbar located in the left part of the Photoshop window, adjust the size according to your needs (you can do this via the menu located at the top), and “color” with the mouse the object or portions of the photo you want to remain in color.
You have to try to be as precise as possible, so in some cases before using the brush it may be useful to create a selection around the object to be colored using the lasso tool or the magnetic lasso.
After making your selection by treading the edges of the subject of your interest, you can improve the accuracy of the edges by clicking on the button Refine Edge located at the top right. In case of “smudging”, you can remove the color in accidentally colored spots in the image using the tool eraser.
In this way, you should be able to get the desired result quickly and easily. If you want, however, there is also another way to highlight a specific color using Photoshop: just use the tool Image> Adjustments> Hue / Saturation to lower the saturation of all colors except the one you want to keep highlighted in the photo.
It doesn’t always work, as it depends on the quality and texture of the starting image, but it can be a valuable shortcut to creating artistic photos with only one color. Find more details on how to use this second technique in my guide on how to desaturate with Photoshop.
As soon as you are satisfied with the result, you can save your edited photo by selecting the item Save with name from the menu File Photoshop, top left.
