Just a small clarification before starting: in the tutorial I will use a P9 Lite equipped with Android 6.0 and EMUI 4.1.1, so the menu items that I will indicate to you may differ slightly from those present on your device. In any case, even if you use a different version of Android / EMUI and have another smartphone model, don’t worry: you shouldn’t have major difficulties in completing the operations described. Happy reading and have fun!
How to enlarge Huawei keyboard characters
If your smartphone is equipped with a keyboard Huawei Swype and you want to find out how to enlarge it, do the following: access the menu of settings, by pressing ongear icon present on the home screen, and then go to Advanced settings> Language and input.
At this point, select the keyboard Huawei Swype from the list of available keyboards and go to Themes> Keyboard Height. You will be offered the option to adjust the percentage of height vertical And horizontal of the keyboard, using two special adjustment bars: move them both towards the right end, in order to reach the 120% (or 110%, if you don’t want to make the keyboard as large as possible), and press the button OK, to save the changes.
If, in addition to the keyboard keys, you also want to enlarge the size of the suggestions for autocomplete (those that appear on the keyboard while typing texts), tap on the item Word list font size, move the adjustment bar that appears on the screen to the far right and click OK.
Perfect: now try calling up the keyboard in any application or text field and you will immediately notice the difference in the size of the keys and / or suggestions for autocomplete.
If you change your mind, you can of course retrace your steps by going to the menu Settings> Advanced settings> Language and inputby selecting the keyboard Huawei Swype, then the voice Themes and changing the values of Keyboard height And Word list font size. Convenient, right?
If you are not satisfied with the customization settings available in the Huawei keyboard, you can turn to some third party keyboards. But be careful: only download keyboards from trusted developers who have positive reviews regarding privacy.
In fact, keyboards for Android, if properly programmed by scam developers, can be used to capture everything that is typed on them, including passwords, bank details, etc. Using third-party keyboards, therefore, always represents a potential privacy risk: you have to go there, as they say, with lead feet!
Having said that, let me show you some reliable alternative keyboards that you can download from the Play Store and that allow you to adjust their size with ease, all for free of course.
SwiftKey Keyboard is one of the most used keyboards for Android ever, one of the first to introduce scrolling (the one to compose words without taking your finger off the screen). It offers a high degree of customization and, as a result, it can also be resized with some ease.
To get it, open the Play Store (the colored ▶ ︎ symbol on the home screen), search “SwiftKey Keyboard” inside it and first presses the app icon in the search results and then on the button Install. If you are reading this tutorial directly from Android, you can go to the Play Store page dedicated to SwiftKey Keyboard by tapping here.
When the download is complete, start SwiftKey Keyboard pressing the button You open of the Play Store or by selecting its icon from the home screen, then press the button Enable SwiftKey and activate the keyboard by moving its lever up ON (in the screen that opens) and then confirming.
Once this is done, click on the button Select SwiftKey, put the check mark next to the item SwiftKey keyboard, to set the keyboard as default, and press Improve forecasts, to choose if and how to improve the autocomplete suggestions: you can link your accounts Google or Microsoft or skip the procedure by pressing the button Not now.
Well: now, to adjust the size of the keyboard, all you have to do is start the app of the SwiftKey Keyboard, click on the icons Typing And Resize and resize the onscreen keyboard using the appropriate indicators. When finished, press the button OK (bottom right) to save the settings.
In the menu ButtonsInstead, you can adjust other keyboard settings, such as whether or not the row of numbers, of the arrow keys and so on. Easier than that?
Gboard is the official keyboard of Google and, on its side, it has many interesting functions, including the ability to search “on the fly”, write by swiping the finger and adjust its size.
Once this is done, set the Google keyboard as the default keyboard on your Android terminal, by going to the menu Settings> Advanced settings> Language and input> Default keyboard and selecting Gboard from the box that is proposed to you. Then select Gboard in the menu Language and input and go up Preferences.
At this point, you just have to go up Keyboard height and use the adjustment bar that appears on the screen to set the option High (just move the indicator to the right end). To save the settings, click on OK.
As you can see, compared to the default size of the keyboard, the “high” setting of Gboard does not lead to major improvements in terms of readability of the writing characters. In any case it is always better than nothing (and then the keyboard is perfectly readable even in its default form, this must be said).
