How to enlarge an image in Photoshop on a computer
Let’s start with how to enlarge an image with Photoshop through the classic desktop version of the program which, I remind you, is included in the Adobe Creative Cloud Photography planthe cost of which starts from 12.19 euros / month (with free trial for 7 days). More info here.
First, therefore, you have to start Photoshop on your computer and import the photo you want to enlarge into the program. To do this, open the menu Fileat the top left, select the item You open from the latter and select the file to operate on. Otherwise, if you prefer, simply drag the latter into the main Photoshop window – it’s the same.
Next, you need to make sure that the copy of Photoshop installed on your computer has a setting active that allows you to enlarge images without suffering quality loss. If you use Windowsopen the menu Edit and select the items Preferences> Technology Previews from the latter. If you use macOSinstead, open the menu Photoshop (top left, in the menu bar) and then select the items Preferences> Technology Previews from the latter.
Now, in the opened window, make sure there is a check mark on the box Turn on Maintain Details 2.0 Magnification (otherwise check the box in question) and click on the button OK. By doing so, when you go to enlarge the image, the Photoshop algorithm will reconstruct the details, minimizing the loss of quality.
Now you can finally zoom in on the photo. To do this, open the menu Image Photoshop, select the item Image size from the latter and, in the window that opens, set the new size of the photo you are working on: to do this, change the value in the text field Length and make sure the symbol is selected chain on the left, so that theheight image.
After choosing the new photo size, put the check mark in the box Resample (actually it should already be checked by default), open the drop-down menu next to it and select the item Keep Details 2.0 from the latter (if you do not see the wording in question, evidently you have skipped the steps that I have listed in the previous lines).
Finally, reduce the noise in the image by moving the cursor located in correspondence with the wording Reduce Noise: I advise you not to exaggerate too much, otherwise the image will seem “fake” and unnatural (never go beyond the 40-50%). When you are ready to do so, then click on the button OK And that’s it.
Mission accomplished! As you can see, the image will be enlarged considerably (based on the size you have decided to set) and there will not be an excessive loss of quality (always within the limits of the possible).
Now you just have to save the output image: then open the menu File Photoshop, select the items Export> Export As from the latter and, in the window that opens, choose the position and the format of the output file. In the end, exports the photo by clicking on the appropriate button.
