ProtonMail (Web / Android / iOS)

How to encrypt email

The first resource I want to advise you to try to encrypt email is called ProtonMail . It is one of the most popular services in the world. It’s free (but possibly also available in two paid variants with extra functions) and to use it you need to register in order to create a special account from which to send mail in a protected and safe way.

Emails sent between users who use the same service are automatically encrypted and decrypted. If instead the message is sent to a “normal” e-mail address, a secret question can be used which the recipient must answer in order to read the message.

To serve, first connect to the main page of the service, then press the Create your encrypted email account button on the left, select the Free plan and click on the Select free plan button in the menu that appears.

Fill out the form that is proposed to you now by typing your username and selecting the domain name you want to use, choosing a password (and confirming it) and providing a recovery email to use in an emergency case then click on Create account .

Now, tick the box next to the item I’m not a robot , select the required images and click on Verify first and then on Complete the configuration . So choose which name you want others to see when you send an email and click on Finish .

At this point, you can finally say satisfied: you have just managed to create your email account to send encrypted emails. To send a message, then press the Compose button at the top left, type the recipient and subject of the email in the appropriate fields attached to the window you see appears and enter your text in the space below then attach any files after clicking on the button with the paperclip and presses the button with the padlock to encrypt the email.

Then choose the password you want to use to encrypt the message twice in a row, filling in the appropriate fields, enter a possible suggestion and press on Set . If you want, you can also make sure that the message is destroyed once a certain period of time has passed. To do this, press the button with the hourglass and specify when you want to expire the message and then press on Set .

To conclude and therefore to send the encrypted email, press the Send button . Done! Those who receive the message can read it only by typing the password you have set after clicking on the View Secure Message button . If, on the other hand, as anticipated at the beginning of the step, the recipient uses ProtonMail in turn, he can read the email directly.

If you are interested in it, I would also like to point out that the service can be used in the form of an app for Android and iOS . The operation is good or bad the same as the site.

It does not allow you to send emails directly but provides a link that can be sent via any email account to allow the recipient to read the encrypted message without typing the appropriate password.

To use Infoencrypt, first of all connect to the home page of the service and then type your text in the box provided under the heading Text to encrypt (or encrypted code to decrypt):, enter the password with which you want to protect the message under the wording Password and enter it again, for confirmation, in the adjacent Confirm Password field .

Note that the link will be accessible for 90 days, after which it will be removed from the service’s servers. Despite this, all the encryption is performed on the customer side, in the browser, and therefore Infoencrypt only stores the encrypted messages, without a password in tow, thus being impossible to read by those who are not authorized.
