JDownloader (Windows / Mac / Linux)

If you want download photos from Facebook completely automatically, from a public page or from your friend’s personal profile, use JDownloader.

JDownloader is a free and open source download manager specialized in retrieving files from file hosting services (eg MEGA, NowDownload, Rapidgator etc.) and in capturing multimedia files from all web pages. It is compatible with both Windows and Mac. OS X and Linux.

To download it to your computer, connect to its official website and click on the item firstDownload Installer for 32 / 64bit systems and then on Click to start the Download if you use a Windows PC or on voice Download Installer Mac OS X Version 10.7 or higher if you use a Mac.

When the download is complete, open the file JDownloader2Setup.exe just downloaded to your PC and click on the button Yup. The download of all the components necessary for the functioning of the program will start. Next, click on the buttons in sequence Advanced installation, Next, Accept, Skip all And Finish and the JDownloader installation procedure will be completed.

On Mac, the procedure to follow is quite similar to the one just seen together for Windows. After opening the package dmg of the program, you have to run the executable JDownloader Installer contained within it and complete the installation of JDownloader by first clicking on OK and then on Next, Skip And Finish.

At this point, start JDownloader, select the item Settings from the menu at the top left and associate your Facebook account with the program. To do this, select the icon Account management from the left sidebar and click on the button add. Then choose facebook.com from the drop-down menu choose a hoster which is located in the center of the window that opens; type username and password of your Facebook account in the appropriate text fields and presses the button Save to complete the operation.

Now leave JDownloader open (so that it can capture the Facebook albums you intend to download to your PC) and launch the browser. Then connect to the Facebook page that contains the album you want to download offline, click on address bar of the browser and copy the address that you find inside it (by right clicking on it and selecting the item Copy from the menu that opens).

Within a few seconds, a notification from JDownloader should appear at the top right to warn you that the Facebook link has been “captured”. Repeat the operation for all the albums you intend to download, go to the tab Capture Links of JDownloader and click on the button play located at the top left to start downloading all images.

Note: if sometimes JDownloader fails to download albums from Facebook and you get the error obsolete plugin, it means that Facebook has changed the system with which it manages photos and therefore you have to wait for a program update to fix the problem. Usually the update arrives within a few hours (JDownloader has a very active community behind it) and installs itself automatically. To “manually” check the availability of updates for the program, click on the icon globe with red and blue arrows located at the top right.

In some circumstances it may also be helpful to deactivate your Facebook account in JDownloader after capturing the links (just click on the Facebook icon at the bottom left and remove the check mark from the item facebook.com) or restore the account association in the menu Settings> Account Management (removing it and adding it again).
