Minimum requirements to download iTunes

Before seeing in detail how to download iTunes for freeit is my duty to provide you with the information relating to minimum requirements necessary for the execution of the program. While iTunes is compatible with the vast majority of PCs and Macs out there, let me list Apple’s recommended hardware and software requirements.

  • Processor – 1GHz Intel or AMD with support for SSE2 and 512MB of RAM.

Download iTunes for Windows

Let’s start by looking first how to download iTunes on Windows PCsince on the latter it is not found pre-installed “as standard”, as it happens for Macs. To do this, all you have to do is use the Microsoft Store of Windows 10 or, if you are using an older version of the operating system Microsoft, download its installation package from the Apple website: everything is explained below.

Windows 10

If you use a PC with Windows 10 you can download iTunes from the Microsoft Store. Then start the latter by pressing the icon of shopping bag with the logo Microsoft located on the taskbar, then presses the button Research (the icon of the magnifying glass located at the top right), type “itunes” In the search field that appears and then click on the icon iTunes. If you want, you can reach the download page even faster by connecting to this address and consenting to the opening of the Microsoft Store.

Once on the application download page, click on the blue button Get located on the right to start its download and that’s it. Once the installation is complete, you can start iTunes by simply pressing the button Start appeared on the right or by selecting its icon from the Windows desktop.

Windows 8.x and earlier

If you have a computer that has not yet been updated to Windows 10, you can still install iTunes by obtaining the program installation file from the Apple website and then following the simple wizard that appears on the screen.

Log in, then, on This Page of the Apple website and presses on the voice Windows (under the button for the Microsoft Store) and then on Download iTunes for Windows now. Once the download is complete, open the installation file you just obtained (iTunes64Setup.exe or iTunesSetup.exe) and follow the instructions given in the window that opens to complete the setup. Then, press on the button Forwardclick the button Installpresses the button Yup in the window User Account Controlclick again on Yup and then on end to complete the installation process.

Download iTunes for macOS

As I told you in the introduction of this article, if you have a Mac you should not need to download iTunes, as the application is integrated “as standard” in macOS. However, if by any chance you have uninstalled it and now want to reinstall it, let me tell you how to proceed depending on the version of macOS you are using.

If you are using macOS 10.15 Catalina or a later version of the Apple operating system, iTunes is not available and cannot be downloaded, as it has been “broken down” into applications Music, Podcast And TV (with the management of iOS / iPadOS devices “hijacked” towards the Finder).

If, on the other hand, your Mac is updated to macOS 10.14 Mojave, know that the version is present by default on the latter. 12.9.x iTunes, which is not currently available for download as a package .dmg. This means that the only possible way to restore this version of iTunes is to restore the entire system using Time Machine or through the macOS reinstallation function included in the Recovery. If you still use a version of macOS equal to or older than the 10.13 High Sierra, you can easily download the iTunes installer from Apple’s website. Connected, therefore, to this web page and presses the blue button Download that appears in the center of the page, in order to download the latest “independent” version of iTunes currently available, that is 12.8.

When the download is complete, open the file iTunes12.8.dmg that you got from the Apple site and, in the window that opens, double-click on Install iTunes to start the program installation process. Then follow the simple instructions that appear on the screen (just always press the button Forwardenter the password macOS user account and restart the Mac when prompted) and that’s it. The next time the system is started, iTunes will be ready for use again.

After installing iTunes on your computer, you will be able to download and purchase music, movies, and other interesting content. To access the iTunes store, select a content category (eg. Music) from the drop-down menu located at the top right and then activate the tab Store, which is located at the top. Then make sure you are logged in with your Apple ID, via the menu Account (up).

  • Apple Music Free Trial – by subscribing to the free trial of Apple Music, you can try the Apple music streaming service for 3 months. At the end of the free trial, however, you must subscribe (which starts at 9.99 euros / month) to continue using it.
  • Gift cards – if a friend or family member has given you a gift card for iTunes, you can use the credit present in it to purchase the contents on the Apple media store.
