How to develop a Facebook app: Would you like to create aapplication on Facebook to promote your website, organize contests and surveys, but don’t want to get involved with complicated programming languages? And who told you you have to do it?

There are free online services that allow you to create Facebook applications consisting of multimedia elements, links to social networks and interactive content (such as surveys, shops and contests) without writing a single line of code. If you want, I’ll tell you some and I’ll explain how to develop a Facebook app using it.

If you want to learn how to develop a Facebook app to promote your website or your business, you can contact an online service called ShortStack which allows you to create customized pages for Facebook complete with social elements, RSS feeds, videos and other multimedia elements without the need for any programming knowledge on the part of the user. The basic version of the service is free and allows you to create pages with a maximum number of 2,000 fans.

To create your application with ShortStack, connect to the home page of the site and click on the orange button Creat my free account. Then fill out the form that is proposed to you with your personal data, or log in using your account directly Facebook by clicking on the appropriate button at the bottom of the page.

Once registered, confirm your identity by clicking on the confirmation link received via email and start creating your application for Facebook by setting the content of its tabs. Then click on the button Create blank tab, type the name you want to assign to the first card (eg. Welcome) and click on Create blank tab to access the ShortStack editor.

A page will open with all on the left widget, in the center the field in which you will have to prepare the contents of the app and on the right a real-time preview of the page as it will be displayed on Facebook. In the section Promotion tools find widgets for promotions and surveys; in Basic tools there are tools to insert photos, writings and links; in Integration there are functions dedicated to social networks and so on.

Once you have selected all the widgets to insert on your application page (just drag them to the central field), click on the button Install tab which is at the top and links ShortStack to your account Facebook by clicking on the button first Login with Facebook and then on OK twice in a row. Finally, to publish your application on the social network, click on the orange button Choose Quick Publish and select the item Install placed next to the name of the page where you want to install the app (if you haven’t created one yet, find out how to create a Facebook page thanks to my guide on the subject).


Now all you have to do is click on the button Copy link and share the link of your Facebook application with the users you want to have access to it. Simple, right? And think, you can also create applications from pre-set templates by clicking on the button Create tab from template of ShortStack, and create applications consisting of several tabs, by clicking on the button Create blank tab in the section Tabs of the site after creating the first tab.
