Now, I think it’s time to get to work: take a few minutes of time for yourself, make yourself comfortable and read very carefully everything I have to explain to you on the subject. I am sure that by the end of this reading, you will be perfectly able to get rid of those uncomfortable messages that could generate discussions, alas, useless. Having said that, there is nothing left for me to do but wish you good reading and good … deleting messages!

Delete a message sent on Messenger

Deleting a message sent on Messenger is not at all difficult: you just need to know the “right keys” to press! In the sections to come, I am going to provide you with the information you need to do it both from smartphones and tablets and from computers.

Smartphones and tablets

Get rid of a message sent on Messenger for Android And iOS it is of a disarming ease! First, launch the app by invoking it from the drawer of the device Android (i.e. the area where the icons of the apps installed are present) or from Home screen from iOS, tap the chat that contains the message you want to delete and then make a prolonged tap on the relative “comic”.

The game is practically done: press the button Remove located at the bottom right and, aware of the fact that the operation cannot be canceled and that the message is thus lost forever, touch the button Remove for you or Remove for all (if it has been sent less than 10 minutes ago) and confirm the operation by tapping the button Remove attached to the warning screen that appears on the screen to finalize the operation.

How do you say? Don’t want to delete just a single message but an entire conversation? Nothing could be simpler: after opening Messenger, make a prolonged tap on the preview of the conversation in the chat list, press the button Delete resident in the menu that appears on the screen and confirms the will to proceed, bearing in mind that the messages can no longer be recovered, by pressing the button Delete chat.

How to delete messages on Messenger

If you mean delete a message sent on Messenger Using the computer, first connect to the Facebook website and log in, if necessary, by entering your email (or your phone number) and your password in the fields provided.

Once on the main page of your profile, click on the icon in the shape of comic book placed at the top and then presses on the link See them all on Messenger, located at the bottom of the box that opens on the screen. Once this is done, press on the chat in which you intend to act from the left panel, identify the message you want to delete, move the mouse over the relative comic book and click on the button (…) that appears on the screen.

To delete the message, all you have to do is click on the item Remove located in the proposed menu and, bearing in mind that the operation is not reversible, confirm the operation by selecting the option first Remove for you or Remove for all (if the message has been sent for less than 10 minutes) and then clicking on the button Remove.

If you wish, you can also delete an entire chat in one go: to do so, move the mouse over the sender of the message, press the button , select the item Delete from the proposed menu and, once again, confirms the desire to permanently delete the entire chat by pressing the button Delete.

If you are using Facebook from a “reduced” browser window, you can obtain the same result by clicking on thepicture profile of the contact you intend to act on: you will find the button in the shape of gear in the right part of the window, immediately under the name of your interlocutor.

If you want to delete the messages without accessing Facebook at all, you can refer to the “independent” platform Messenger.com: to proceed, go to the web page of the service, enter your Facebook login credentials or click on the button Continue as [Nome cognome] if you have previously logged into the social network through the browser.

The Messenger interface is practically identical to the one seen a little while ago: all you have to do is follow the same steps that I illustrated in the lines above to permanently delete the messages that are “uncomfortable” for you.

Delete all messages sent on Messenger at the same time

Delete all messages sent on Messenger at the same time

Wait, are you telling me that Messenger now looks like a battlefield and would you like to delete all chats at once? Then I think I can help you with a handy browser extension Google Chrome (you can install it, if you don’t already have it, following my themed guide), which responds to the name of Delete All Messages from Facebook.

Before continuing, I would like to point out that, by using this add-on, you will grant it permission to access, at least as long as it is installed on Chrome, all data relating to the websites you visit: continue well aware of this aspect.

To delete all messages sent on Messenger at the same time, do the following: First, connect to the Chrome Web Store page dedicated to the add-on and presses the buttons add And Add extension to finalize its installation. Once this is done, click on the new icon that appears at the top right (a speech bubble with an X in the center) to open the Messenger Web interface and, once the page is loaded, presses the same icon a second time. Aware of the fact that the extension will delete all messages from all chats without the possibility of recovering them, select the button Delete all messages to finalize everything.

At this point, all you have to do is wait for the extension to complete its task: the successful deletion of messages will be notified by a notification panel. If, on the other hand, you do not intend to delete all the conversations but only a part of them, press the button Choose & Delete, put a check mark next to the chats you want to get rid of and then click on the button Delete selected messages. Easier than that ?!

Archive a chat on Messenger

As I explained earlier, if you simply intend to “hide” a conversation from the list of active chats and thus make it invisible at first glance, you can act in a less drastic way by archiving messages. However, keep in mind that archived chats are not deleted and remain available in the section Archived conversations of the Messenger app, of the section Facebook chat and the website Messenger.com. Well aware of this detail, follow the instructions below if you still intend to archive your messages.

Smartphones and tablets

To archive a conversation on Messenger for smartphones and tablets, you can act with a procedure very similar to the one already used for deleting an entire conversation: all you have to do, therefore, is start the Messenger app on your smartphone or on your tablet, perform a prolonged tap on the chat you want to archive and press on the voice Archive resident in the menu shown on the screen.

Restoring an archived conversation is just as simple: all you have to do is send a message to it, to bring it back into the list of active chats!

Computer

The procedure for archiving one or more messages sent on Messenger, via PC, is actually quite similar to that seen previously for deletion. First, therefore, connect to the Facebook main page by entering your login credentials and, once you have entered your personal profile, click on the icon in the shape of comic book located at the top right and then click on the item See them all on Messenger.

Once in the page dedicated to Facebook chat, identify in the left panel the sender of the chat on which you want to act, move the mouse over the relevant item, click on the button displayed on the screen and select the item Archive from the proposed menu: the conversation is archived immediately.

If you are using Messenger from a “small” browser window, you must first click on the profile image of the contact you are interested in: the symbol in the shape of gear instead it is shown on the right, in correspondence with its name.

Either way, you can retrieve an archived conversation and put it back into active chats in a very simple way: all you have to do is send a message to it!

If you wish, you can archive messages even without logging in to Facebook, using the site Messsenger.com. To do this, connect to the website of the service, enter your Facebook login credentials (or click on the button Continue as [Nome Cognome] if you are already logged in to the social network via the browser): the service screen is practically identical to the one seen above, so you can archive the messages that you no longer want to see “in the foreground” by following the previous instructions.
