What is a nameplate

How to use the nameplate on Minecraft

In case you don’t know what a Minecraft tag is for, in the next lines I will explain in detail the purpose for which this object was implemented in the game and how to use it.

So, you must know that any creature present in Minecraft can have a name (except for the Ender Dragon ): each player has a nickname and even non-playing characters and animals can have one, thanks to the nameplate .

You can therefore use this object to name the animals you have tamed or to recognize a NPC (non-player character) from a village that is particularly nice to you, just to give you some examples.

Unfortunately you cannot create a tag using the resources you collect during your adventures, but I will tell you more about this in the next chapter of the tutorial : now, however, I want to explain how to use a tag, in case I managed to get one, maybe thanks to the suggestions that I will give you during this guide of mine.

A tag cannot be used directly to assign a nickname to a Minecraft creature: first you need to engrave a name on it, the same one you want to attribute to creatures when interacting with this object on them. The operation in question can only be carried out through the use of an anvil .

To build this tool, you must add 3 Iron Block units and 4 Iron Ingot units to a workbench . An ingot is simply obtained by working in a furnace of raw iron , which you can easily find underground. When you have obtained the ingots, place 9 units inside a workbench to create an Iron Block .

After crafting an anvil , place it on the ground and interact on it, to open its management panel. Then insert the plate in the free slot and click on the wording “plate” to rename it. When you are done, take the resulting item from the right slot, which will contain the nickname you set.

Now, equip the nameplate and, interacting on a Minecraft creature, you will automatically add the nickname you have chosen to it: you can see the final result through the appropriate wording that is shown right above the creature’s head.

Since the tag is not an object that you can create in Minecraft, the only way to get it is to find it during some specific activities. One of these, for example, is to explore the Mansions or the underground mines : in short, you can find this object as a prize inside the trunks hidden in the game world.

In addition to what was said in the previous lines, you can also try your luck while fishing , with which you can have a good chance of pulling on a plate with your fishing rod : I told you in detail about this activity in another guide .

My advice, however, is to add the Fortuna of the Seas bonus to the fishing rod, so that you have a better chance of finding a tag. You will therefore have to create a spell bench , as I explained in this guide of mine , and try to get a book with the spell I have indicated to you, so that you can add it to your fishing rod later.

Finally, if you are used to trading with village NPCs, you must know that the Librarian , at Master level , allows you to obtain the plates in exchange for emeralds . Reaching this level of trade requires a little patience, because you will have to trade several products before unlocking this specific exchange.

Commands to add the nameplate on Minecraft

If you are in a hurry to get the nameplate on Minecraft, you just have to access the unlimited resources available in Creative mode . If you have already created a world in this mode, by accessing the inventory, you can very well find this object, using the Search tab .

If you are in Survival mode , however, you have two alternatives, both of which are to use the command console : change the game mode to Creative or directly add the tag to your inventory. But let’s go in order.

First, you need to make sure you have enabled the command console (also called Cheats in some versions of Minecraft). In the Java Edition , you can do this during the world creation phase, choosing the Other world options item and making sure that the Commands option is set to Yes .

Alternatively, if you had created the world in Survival mode , press the menu button and select the Open in LAN item . At this point, change the entry to Yes , next to the wording Commands and press the Start the world in LAN button , to confirm.

In the Bedrock Edition version of Minecraft, however, when you create a new world, make sure that the Cheats option is active . Even in this case, if you had not activated this option previously, go back to the Minecraft main screen and, in the list of worlds you created, press on the pencil icon , to change the server settings, making sure it is active the Cheat option .

Now that you’ve enabled the command console , it’s time to use the strings that will allow you to get the nameplate on Minecraft. As I already told you before, in case you simply want to change the mode on the server (from that Survival to the Creative one ), you have to open the chat (the T key ) and type the command / gamemode creative .

By doing so, the game world will switch to Creative mode and you will have access to unlimited resources, which you will find in the avatar inventory. To return to Survival mode , use the / gamemode survival command .

If you don’t want to change the game mode in the world you created, you can simply type a command string that allows you to add the tag directly to the inventory: / give @p minecraft: name_tag .

How to craft a tag using mod

Mod to craft a nameplate on Minecraft

If you want to enable the craft of the tag on Minecraft Java Edition , then you will be forced to use a mod used for the purpose. To do this, however, you will first need to install Minecraft Forge , a tool that allows you to manage add-ons for Minecraft.

To proceed, go to the Minecraft Forge website and press the Installer button , to download the Minecraft Forge .jar file . After downloading the latter, double click on it and press the OK button to install Minecraft Forge on your computer.

Now you need to download the Craftable Name Tag mod , which you can find on the CurseForge.com website : then press the Download button . After the download is complete, go to the Minecraft main directory ( C: Users [name] AppDataRoaming.minecraft ) and place the .jar file of the mod you just downloaded in the mods folder . If you don’t find the latter, create it manually .

At this point, start Minecraft and press the ▲ icon, which you can find next to the Play button . In the box that is shown to you, then select the Forge profile and click the Play button . Now, all you have to do is enter a world of Minecraft and place, within a workbench, 1 unit of string , 1 unit of gold bar and 1 unit of paper . Easy, isn’t it?
