How to close Facebook: Even though you have closed Facebook from the main menu of your smartphone (the one with the previews of all running applications), do you continue to receive notifications from the social network? Do your friends keep seeing you online and bombarding you with messages? Well, that’s normal. Indeed, quite normal.

For close Facebook you have to open the application and log out of your personal account. Or, if you are only interested in disabling notifications, you have to go to the social network settings and disable alerts related to messages, tags, comments, friend requests and so on. In short, you have to do everything except force the application to close from the multitasking menu… that is absolutely useless!

But now let’s not get lost in chatter anymore and let’s try to solve your problem with Facebook. We will first see how to completely disconnect from our personal account, then how to disable application notifications and finally we will deal with Facebook Messenger, the Facebook messaging service that is often a source of annoying notifications. Time five minutes and you can say goodbye to all the annoyances generated by Facebook applications on your mobile, I promise!

Log out of Facebook

If you want close Facebook to not let your friends know that you are online, or do not want to receive notifications from the social network, use the logout and notification management functions available within the application.

  • To completely disconnect from Facebook – start the application, press the ad icon Hamburger (the three horizontal lines) which on Android is at the top right and on the iPhone at the bottom right, scroll to the bottom of the page that opens and press the button Go out twice in a row.
  • To disable Facebook notifications on Android – start the application, press the ad icon Hamburger, scroll to the bottom of the page that opens and select the item Application settings. At this point, go to the menu related to notifications and deselect the types of notifications you no longer want to receive (eg wall posts, messages, friend confirmations, photo tags, etc.). Alternatively, if you want to disable all Facebook notifications at the same time, go to the menu Settings> Sound & Notifications> App Notifications of Android, select the icon Facebook and move up ON the lever for the option Block.
  • To disable Facebook notifications on iPhone / iPad – start the application, press the ad icon Hamburger, scroll to the bottom of the page that opens and select the item first Settings and then Account settings. At this point, go to the menu related to notifications, select the icon For Mobile and deselect all notifications you no longer want to receive (e.g. messages, friend requests, comments). Alternatively, to disable all Facebook notifications at the same time, go to the menu Settings> Notifications for iOS, select the icon Facebook and move up OFF the lever for the option Allow notifications.

To reactivate Facebook notifications, almost needless to say, all you have to do is go back to the application menu (or the operating system of your smartphone) and reactivate the settings that you had previously deactivated. To access the social network again after a complete disconnection, however, just start the app and log in with your email address and password.

Note: if you want to disconnect from Facebook on the PC, connected to the main page of the social network, click on arrow located at the top right (in the blue bar of the social network) and select the item Go out from the menu that opens.

Log out of Facebook Messenger

How to close Facebook

Facebook Messenger, Facebook’s messaging service, does not include a logout function like the main Facebook application. Even if you log out of Facebook, it remains active. But thanks to a little “trick” you can also disconnect from the latter.

  • To close Facebook Messenger on Android – open the main Facebook application (not Messenger), press the ad icon Hamburger located at the top right, scroll to the bottom of the screen that opens and select the item Quick links to privacy. Then go up Other Settings> Security> Active Sessions to view all active Facebook sessions for your account and delete all references to Facebook Messenger on Android or Internet Browser on Android pressing on the appropriate x. Alternatively, you can also delete your account data from Messenger by going to the menu Settings> Apps of Android, by selecting the icon Messenger from the screen that opens and first pressing the button Clear data and then on OK.
  • To close Facebook Messenger on iPhone / iPad – open the main Facebook application (not Messenger), press the ad icon Hamburger located at the bottom right and select the item Quick links to privacy from the screen that opens. Next, go on Other Settings> Security> Active Sessions to view all active Facebook sessions for your account and delete all references to Facebook Messenger on iOS pressing on the appropriate x.

You don’t want to completely close Facebook Messenger but only be “invisible” (so without the green dot next to the name) in the eyes of your friends? Nothing simpler. Start Messenger, select the tab Friends application (bulleted list icon), choose to display users only Active and move up OFF the toggle next to your name. Your friends will be able to keep writing to you but they won’t see the green dot next to your name (so they know you probably won’t read their messages right away).

Do you want disable Facebook Messenger notifications without disconnecting from the application or being “invisible” in the chat? This can also be done, let’s see how.

  • To turn off Messenger notifications on Android – start Messenger, press the icongear located at the top right, select the item Notifications and sounds from the screen that opens and moves up OFF the lever for the option Notifications and sounds. If you don’t want to completely disable notifications but only their sounds or vibrations, just uncheck the items Sound or Vibration.
  • To turn off Messenger notifications on iPhone / iPad – start Messenger, select the tab Settings located at the bottom right and go to the menu Notifications. At this point, if you want to disable notifications completely move to ON the lever for the option Turn off notifications And that’s it. If, on the other hand, you want to disable only sounds or vibrations, select the item Notifications in Messenger and move up OFF the levers relating to Audio or Vibration.

In case of second thoughts, to restore the notifications, all you have to do is go back to the Messenger menu and remove all the changes made previously.
