How to clear Huawei Cloud: If you have a Huawei smartphone or tablet, you will surely know that your device gives you access to Cloud Huawei: a cloud storage service, free up to 5GB, which allows you to save online and automatically synchronize all the most important data – photos, videos, contacts, documents, app data, backups and so on – with all devices connected to the own HUAWEI ID.

It is, as you can guess, a very useful service, but the 5GB of free space are not difficult to fill: I think you know it well, since you are here and you are reading this guide. I bet you are short on space and therefore are looking for advice on how to clear the Huawei Cloud to get a few more Giga, right? Or maybe you have decided to completely disable the service? Well, whatever your needs are, do not worry: in the next few lines I will guide you to empty your space on the Huawei Cloud and, if you wish, also to deactivate the service. You just have to take a few minutes of free time and put into practice the instructions I am about to give you.

Just a small clarification before starting: I used a Huawei P40 equipped with the EMUI 10.1 operating system to make the tutorial. The items to press and the menus to select on your device may be slightly different than those that I will show you in the following lines, however these are minimal variations, so you should not encounter great difficulties in achieving your goal. Having said that too, I just have to wish you a good read and a big good luck for everything!

How to clear Huawei Cloud from smartphones

Let’s go straight to the point and find out how to clear Huawei Cloud acting from the smartphone (or tablet). Whether you just want to free up some space or delete everything on your online space, you’ll be able to do it all in no time, promise!

Preliminary operations

The first step I recommend you to take is to identify the data that takes up the most space on your Huawei Cloud. To do this, access the Settings of your smartphone or tablet (the gear icon on the Home screen), select yours HUAWEI ID and go up first Cloud and then on Memory management.

A screen will open with a summary of the space available on your Huawei Cloud and a list of the elements present on the latter: Cloud Backup (i.e. backing up your device and apps), Huawei Drive (documents and other files in your cloud space) e Apps that use the Cloud (system apps, including Gallery, Calendar, Block notes etc.). Once you have taken stock of the situation, you can act with greater awareness to free up space on your online archive.

Gallery

How to empty Huawei Cloud Gallery

Among the elements that generally take up the most space on the Huawei Cloud are photos and videos of the Gallery. To delete them, all you have to do is start the app Gallery on your smartphone or tablet, perform a prolonged tap on a photo, a video or a album to be deleted (in order to select it and activate the selection mode on the device), check the boxes relating to any other elements to be removed and press the Trash can present below. Finally, put the check mark next to the item Also delete from the Cloud Gallery and synced albums on all your devices, press the button Delete And that’s it.

The selected items will be deleted from the device and from the Huawei Cloud space, but not completely. In fact, they will remain for 30 days in a temporary folder named Recently deleted; to remove them from there as well and thus actually free up the space on the Huawei Cloud, access the album Recently deleted in the app Gallery and press on the item Remove twice in a row.

How do you say? Would you delete photos and videos from the Huawei Cloud but not from your device? I’m sorry but, in this case, the only solution available to you is to deactivate the synchronization of the Gallery with the Huawei Cloud and then proceed to delete the elements of your interest from the Web version of the Huawei Cloud (which I’ll tell you more about in chapter dedicated to the PC). If you intend to do so, you can disable the synchronization of the Gallery with the Huawei Cloud by going to the menu Settings> [tuo HUAWEI ID] > Cloud> Gallery of your device, by deactivating the lever relating to Cloud Gallery sync and confirming.

If you are looking for a free alternative for saving photos and videos to the cloud, try taking a look at Google Photos, which allows you to save photos and videos in medium quality (max 16MP for photos and 1080p for videos) on the cloud with no space limits and at no cost.

Device backup

Huawei Cloud Backup

Other elements that can take up a lot of space on the Huawei Cloud are the backup of the device and the apps installed on it (eg WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook). To delete them, go to the menu Settings> [tuo HUAWEI ID] > Cloud of your device, press the button Memory management, select the item Cloud Backup from the screen that opens, touch the name of the device you want to delete the backup and, finally, tap the buttons Delete backup and Delete.

If after deleting the backups you want to completely disable this function, go to the menu Settings> [tuo HUAWEI ID] > Cloud of your device, press the button Cloud Backup, move up OFF the voice lever Cloud Backup and confirm.

Alternatively, if you just want to “lighten” future backups, select the item Backup options and deselect all available items in the screen that opens. To disable the backup of third-party applications, you must disable the special levers in the menu App data, by responding affirmatively to the warnings that are shown to you every time you choose to deactivate one of the items included in the backup.

Huawei Drive

Huawei Drive

Another component worth talking about is Huawei Drive, that is, the online disk offered by the Huawei Cloud for storing and synchronizing all kinds of files (a bit like Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud Drive and the like).

As easily understood, to free up space on Huawei Drive you have to delete the files you no longer need from the latter and then empty the relative Recycle Bin (where the deleted files remain for 30 days before the space on the Huawei Cloud is actually freed) .

To proceed, start the app File management present on your smartphone or tablet, perform a prolonged tap on a file to be deleted (in order to select it and activate the selection mode), check the boxes relating to any other files to be removed, press the Trash can present below and confirm.

Afterwards, go to the folder Recently deleted, activate the selection mode as seen above, select the files to be permanently deleted from the Huawei Cloud and press the button Delete twice in a row.

Other data

Cloud Huawei

The ones I just told you about are the contents that generally take up more space on the Huawei Cloud. In any case, you can also delete the other data from the respective apps on your smartphone / tablet or deactivate the online backup by acting on the levers in the menu Settings> [tuo HUAWEI ID] > Cloud. Easy, right?

If you prefer to act from PC, you can free up space on the Cloud from Huawei by connecting to the management panel of the latter from the browser and logging in to yours HUAWEI ID (you may need to enter a verification code received on your smartphone or tablet).

Once logged in, click on the icon relating to the elements you want to manage, for example Gallery for photos and videos or Huawei Drive for documents, and proceed as follows.

In the case of photo And video, select the contents to delete using the combination Ctrl + click, click on the icon Trash can present at the top and confirm. Then open the album Recently deleted from the left sidebar and press twice on Delete, to delete the items permanently (otherwise they would remain in the folder in question for 30 days) and actually free up space on the Huawei Cloud. Please note that the selected photos and videos will also be deleted on your devices (unless you have deactivated the synchronization of the Gallery, as explained above).

In the case of Huawei Drive, Click on file or the folder you want to delete, click on the icon Trash can present at the top and confirm. Then select the folder Recently deleted (where deleted files remain for 30 days) from the left sidebar, select again file And folders to be deleted, click on the icon Trash can present at the top and confirm.

In this way, you will permanently delete the data (even from your devices, if you have activated the synchronization with the Huawei Cloud) and free up the space on your Huawei Drive. Happy?
