How to clear Facebook history: Every time we search for a person, a page or an event on Facebook, all the terms we have typed end up in an archive that is automatically recalled as soon as we select the search bar of the social network.
I bet you’ve also happened to use Facebook in the presence of other people and see some embarrassing – or in any case inappropriate – reference appear in the search bar. Here, if I were you I would make sure that such situations do not repeat themselves. As? I’ll explain it to you right away. Access the activity log of your profile immediately and carefully follow the instructions on how to clear facebook history that I am about to give you.
To put my suggestions into practice you can act both from your computer and from your smartphone but, be careful, the history is unique for all devices. This means that the changes made on the PC or smartphone also affect other devices and there is no way to go back. In short, there is no separate history for PC and smartphone and you have to think very carefully before deleting one or more entries from the latter. Then don’t tell me I didn’t warn you!
Delete Facebook history from PC
If you are in front of a computer screen right now, connect to Facebook and, if necessary, access your personal profile by entering your email address and password in the appropriate text fields. Then click on search bar of the social network and choose the voice Edit from the search suggestions menu (i.e. from the list of the latest pages and profiles you have visited).
You should now be in front of the history of all the searches you have made on Facebook over the last few months. Choose, therefore, whether to delete individual entries from the latter (so as not to make them appear in the search suggestions anymore) or whether to completely delete the entire history of the social network.
In the first case, all you have to do is click on theprohibition icon (⃠) located next to the item to be removed and select the option Delete from the menu that appears. In the second, however, you have to press the button Clear searches located at the top right.
Both types of cancellation require confirmation of the operation, which you can give by clicking on the button Remove search / Clear searches located in the center of the box that appears in the center of the screen.
If you are unable to view the Facebook history by selecting the “Edit” item in the search suggestions, I would like to point out that you can also reach the page for managing the history on the social network in another way. This alternative method is to click on the arrow located in the blue bar (top right) and select the item Activity log from the menu that appears.
On the page that opens, you must then select the item Other from the left sidebar (under the words Photo, I like it And Comments) and click on the icon Near which appears below. For the rest of the procedure – that is, to take the steps necessary to delete the Facebook history – follow the instructions I gave you previously.
Delete Facebook history from smartphone / tablet
For clear Facebook history from a smartphone or tablet, you have to follow a procedure very similar to the one we have just seen together for the PC. To be more precise, you have to start the Facebook app, press on search bar social network and select the item Edit from the search suggestions box.
Then you have to choose whether to delete a single entry from the history or whether to delete all Facebook search suggestions. To delete a single entry from the history you have to press on x placed next to the latter. To delete all Facebook history, however, you have to press the button Clear searches and confirm the operation by “tapping” on Confirmation.
If you can’t find the “Edit” option in the Facebook search box, don’t panic, you can access the history management menu in another way. All you have to do is go to the Activity log Facebook, select the item related to searches and proceed with the elimination of unwanted elements.
To reach the Facebook activity log you have to take different steps depending on the operating system installed on your smartphone or tablet.
- If you use a terminal Android, start the Facebook app, press the button ≡ located at the top right and select the item Activity log from the screen that opens.
- If you use a iPhone or a iPad, presses the button ≡ located at the bottom right and select the item first Settings and then the voice Activity log from the screen that opens.
- If you have a Windows Phone, presses the ≡ button which is at the top right and go up Settings> Settings on the privacy. Then press the button again ≡ which is located at the top right and “tap” on the item Activity log.
At this point, press the button Filter, select the option Near from the menu that appears and delete the history of searches made on Facebook as explained above.
Other privacy settings (likes, comments, etc.)
In conclusion, I would like to point out that selecting the other options available in the Facebook activity log (in the sidebar of the social network on the computer and in the menu Filter on smartphone / tablet) you can view the history of all your activities on the social network: comments, I like it, discussions in groups etc.
To modify each element, choosing for example to cancel a like or delete a comment, click on the icon pencil placed next to the latter and choose the appropriate item from the menu that appears (eg. Delete to delete a comment or I do not like it anymore to cancel a like). Useful, don’t you think?
Disable the “Happened Today” function
Another form of history included in Facebook is that relating to the function It happened today, through which the social network shows us the posts and photos we have published in the past years.
If you want to delete the “Happened Today” function from your profile, connect to Facebook and select the icon It happened today from the left sidebar (if you do not find the icon in question, click on the item Other found under the heading Explore and you will see it appear). Then click on the button Notifications located at the top right and select the item No from the menu that appears.
In this way you have deactivated notifications relating to past memories (so Facebook will no longer offer them to you to post them again in your diary), but you have not completely deactivated the “Happened Today” function. To completely deactivate the “Happened Today” function, you have to click on the button Preferences which is at the top right and you need to set gods date filters that have a beginning and an end far away in time (e.g. starting at a date before your Facebook membership and ending at a date far in the future). By doing so, you will tell Facebook not to consider a very long time frame for the construction of its “memories”.
On smartphones and tablets you can get the same result by pressing the button ≡ Facebook and selecting the item It happened today from the screen that opens (if the item is not available, click on the button Other to make it appear).
In the screen that opens, you must then press the icon of thegear located at the top right and change the settings for notifications or preferences (i.e. to date filters) as explained above in the passage of the guide dedicated to the PC.
