I already anticipate that, contrary to what you may think, it is a fairly simple operation to perform, even for those who, like you, do not consider themselves a “geek”.

Then? May I know what are you still standing there? Position yourself comfortably, take your Samsung phone and start putting into practice the instructions on what to do that you find below. What do you say, we bet?

Preliminary operations

Before getting to the heart of the topic, going to explain, in practice, how it is necessary to proceed for change notification ringtone on Samsung, there are some preliminary operations that you have to do, provided that you want to avoid the warning tones present “standard” on your device and import and / or create new ringtones.

If the ringtone you want to use as a notification alert tone is on your computer, you need to worry about transferring it to your device first. To do this, connect your mobile phone to your computer using the special cable, start the application Samsung SmartSwitch or that Samsung KIES and copy the audio file of your interest to the folder Notifications smartphone. For more details about it, you can refer to my guide on how to connect Samsung mobile to PC.

Once the ringtone has been transferred to the device, or if it was already present on the smartphone, you can edit it (if you deem it necessary) using one of the many apps specially used for this purpose available for Android. Personally, I recommend you Ringtone Maker by Big Bang Inc., which is in Italian and is very easy to use. To find out how to use it, you can follow the detailed instructions on what to do that I gave you in my guide on how to create ringtones.

If, on the other hand, you prefer to download ready-to-use ringtones to set for the notifications of your Samsung smartphone, the best suggestion I can give you in this regard is without a shadow of a doubt to rely on apps specially designed for the purpose, as in the case of Zedge, which allows you to search and download ready-made ringtones directly to Android. For further information on this, to find out in detail how the app I have just reported to you works and to know other similar ones, read my guide on ringtone applications.

How to change Samsung notification ringtone

To change the (almost) totality of the ringtones on your Samsung device, all you have to do is, as I told you, to use the Android settings. To do this, take your device, unlock it, log in to drawer (the screen where you find the icons of all the apps grouped) and presses the icon of Settings (the one with thegear).

In the new screen that is shown to you at this point, presses on the item Sounds and vibration and on the wording Notification sounds. At this point, you can choose the default ringtone to use, the one for i messages and the one for notifications from calendar, selecting the option you prefer visible on the screen and then the warning tone of your interest from the list that appears (if you do not see the list, first presses on the item Notification sound). Note that every time you select a ringtone in the list, a preview of it is played.

If, on the other hand, you want to change the ringtone you want to set it to silent or activate / deactivate vibration only, you can do this as indicated below depending on the type of notification you want to take action.

  • Default notification ringtone – to set the notification sound to silent, go to Settings> Sounds & Vibration> Notification Sounds> Default Notification Ringtone and select Silent from the list of alert tones. To activate or deactivate the vibration, instead, go to Settings> Sounds and Vibration and carry on ON or on OFF (depending on what your needs are) the switch next to the item It vibrates and rings.
  • Message Notifications – to set the notification sound to silent, go to Settings> Sounds & Vibration> Notification Sounds> Message Notifications> Notification Sound and choose Silent from the list of warning tones that is shown to you. To activate or deactivate the vibration, go to Settings> Sounds & Vibration> Notification Sounds> Message Notifications and move up ON or on OFF (depending on what your needs are) the lever next to the item Vibrate to audio playback.
  • Calendar notifications – to set the notification sound to silent, go to Settings> Sounds & Vibration> Notification Sounds> Calendar Notifications> Notification Sound and choose Silent from the list of notification tones that opens. If, on the other hand, you want to activate or deactivate the vibration, go to the section Settings> Sounds & Vibration> Notification Sounds> Calendar Notifications and carry on ON or on OFF (as needed) the switch that you find in correspondence with the item Vibrate to audio playback.

I also point out the possibility of regulating the audio level the notification ringtone and thevibration intensity. In the first case, always go to Settings> Sounds and Vibration, presses on the voice Volume and move, as required, the cursor placed on the adjustment bar next to the item Notifications.

In the second case, instead, go to Settings> Sounds and Vibration, tap on the item Vibration intensity in the new screen displayed and move, according to your needs and preferences, the cursor located on the adjustment bar next to the wording Notifications.

Note: depending on the version of Android in use on your Samsung device, the indications I have given you in this step, regarding the items to be selected in the settings, may differ slightly from what you see. For your knowledge, I have used a Samsung Galaxy S6 updated to Android 7.0.

From the app settings

How to change Samsung notification ringtone

As anticipated, in the specific case of some applications, such as Whatsapp, to change the notification ringtone it is not possible to act from the Android settings, but you have to intervene on the internal settings of the app of your interest.

Unfortunately, I can’t be 100% precise as to what to do as I don’t know which app you want to change the notification ringtone for. In principle, however, to do so, just go to the section settings of the app, select the item related to notifications and / or ai sounds, press on the wording relating to notification tone and choose your favorite ringtone from the list that opens.

To give a practical example, if you want to change the sound of WhatsApp notifications, you have to start the app in question, press the button with the three dots vertically located at the top right, choose the item Settings from the menu that opens and tap on the wording Notifications on the next screen.

Finally, press on the item Notification tone that you find in correspondence with the sections Message notifications And Group notifications and choose the ringtone you prefer from the list that appears.
