Change Facebook profile picture

As I mentioned in the introduction, change your Facebook profile picture it’s as simple as drinking a glass of water: all you have to do is upload the photo you want to use for that purpose and replace the one you currently set. Let me explain how to proceed in detail both from smartphones and tablets and from PCs.

Smartphones and tablets

To change the profile picture on Facebook from smartphone and tablet, the first thing you need to do is launch the official social network app on your device (it is available for Android, iOS And Windows 10 Mobile) and log into your account if necessary. Next, press on thumbnail of your current profile photo located in correspondence with the wording What are you thinking about?, to go directly to your profile.

At this point, press the button Edit which is located on your current Facebook profile photo, press the button Select profile picture and, in the screen that opens, tap on one of the photos in the section Camera roll (to expand it and see more photos, press on Other) or, if you prefer, choose one of the photos you have used in the past as your profile picture from the section Profile pictures or Uploads. If you want, you can also press the button depicting the camera and take a photo on the spot to use as your profile picture.

After selecting the profile picture, press the buttons Edit, Effect And Reason to apply filters, stickers or some nice effects to the image and, as soon as you are ready to do it, save the changes made by pressing the button Save. Easier than that ?!

PC

To change your Facebook profile photo from PC, you need to connect to the main page of the social network, log in to your account (if necessary) and then press on yours first name located at the top, so as to go directly to your profile. Then place the mouse pointer on your current profile picture and press the button Refresh that appears.

Now, press the button (+) Upload photos to upload a new image directly from the PC and, once upload is complete, crop the photo using the slider located low and then press up Save, to save her. Now all you have to do is wait for the changes made to apply and that’s it.

If you intend to “recycle” an old profile photo or if you still want to use a photo that you have already uploaded to your Facebook profile, instead of pressing the “(+) Upload photo” button, click on the preview of one of the photos displayed in the box Update profile picture. As you can see, you have the option to use both photos uploaded to Facebook as your profile picture (Your Photos) which photos you previously used as your profile picture (Profile pictures).

Once you have located the photo you want to set as your profile picture, click on its preview, cut it out (if necessary) and press the blue button Save to save the changes made. Did you see that it wasn’t that complicated to change your Facebook profile picture?

Change Facebook profile picture without publishing it

As you may already know, when you decide to change the image of your Facebook profile, this is then also published on your diary in the form of a post. This is done to allow your friends and people who follow your profile to be informed of the news, so that they can possibly express their appreciation for the new profile picture.

If you want to change your Facebook profile picture without publishing it in your diary, know that at the time of writing it is not possible to opt for this choice. However, you can try to solve the problem simply by changing the privacy of the post that is automatically generated by Facebook every time you change your profile photo. I guarantee you that doing this is really simple: let me explain how to proceed.

After changing your profile picture by following the steps I gave you in previous chapter, go back to your Facebook profile, locate the post containing your new profile picture and then follow the instructions below.

  • From smartphones and tablets – presses the button (…) located in the upper right corner of the post, tap on the item Edit privacy from the menu that opens and presses on the option Only me, so as to prevent your friends from viewing the post in question
  • From PC – presses the button which is placed in the upper left corner of the post and click on the privacy option Only me, so as to prevent your friends from viewing the post in question.

As soon as you have changed the privacy option for the post that was automatically generated after changing your profile photo, you can also hide it from your diary, so that you cannot see it either. I would like to clarify, however, that if I did not change the privacy options relating to the post in question, it would be useless to hide it as it could be viewed elsewhere.

Whether you are working from a mobile or a computer, to hide the post regarding the modification of your new profile picture, you must do the following: press the button (…) located in the upper right corner of the post, then click on the option Hide from the diary and confirm the operation by pressing the button Hide from the menu that opens. Simple, right ?!

Change your Facebook profile picture without losing “likes”

Have you used a profile picture in the past that has been particularly successful as it has gotten so many “likes”? I bet you would like to use it again now, but you fear that the likes received are now lost. You are very wrong! By reusing a profile image already used in the past, in fact, it is possible to “restore” together with it the “likes” received at the time of its first use.

To use an “old” Facebook profile picture, all you have to do is follow the steps I indicated in the opening chapter, i.e. access your Facebook profile, press the button relating to the option through which to modify the profile photo (Edit or Refresh) and then choose a photo from those listed under the heading Profile pictures. As if by “magic”, the profile picture will be modified and with it the “likes” you received the first time you used it will also appear. Not bad, right?

Note: from the tests I conducted, it would appear that modifying a previously used profile picture, the “likes” are lost. To avoid this problem, therefore, I invite you to do not resize the image, nor to apply any other changes to it. By doing this, in fact, you may not have the guarantee that the likes received when you used the chosen profile photo for the first time will actually be kept. Understood?
