 How to block Windows 10 Home updates

Starting with Windows 10 1903 (May 2019 update) , Windows 10 allows you to block, or better, temporarily prevent the installation of updates via Windows Update. To take advantage of this possibility, press the Start button  (the flag icon located in the lower left corner of the screen) and click on the gear icon on the left side of the menu that opens, in order to access the panel  PC settings .

At this point, click on the Update and security icon , then on the button Suspend updates for 7 days and you will suspend the updates of Windows 10 for 7 days: you can repeat this operation for a total of 5 times, for a total of 35 days of suspension updates.

Alternatively, you can click on the Advanced options item  and select an exact date until which to block Windows Update (always for a maximum of 35 days) using the Select date drop-down menu . In case of second thoughts, to restore the functioning of Windows Update, click on the Resume updates button .

 How to block Windows 10 Enterprise and Pro updates

The Enterprise and Pro versions of Windows 10 offer the same features to disable automatic updates of Windows 10 Home, but this only from version 1903 of the operating system onwards.

If you use an older version of Windows 10 and you have an Enterprise or Pro edition of the system, you can take advantage of specific settings to temporarily block the installation of updates via. Windows Update

Going into more detail, what you need to do is press the Start button (the Windows flag icon located in the lower left corner of the screen), click on the gear icon in the menu that opens (to access to the Settings menu ) and select the Update and security icon from the window that appears on the screen.

At this point, select the Windows Update item from the left sidebar, go to Advanced Options and use the drop-down menu located under the item A feature update includes new features and improvements. It can be postponed for the following number of days to set the number of days (up to 365) for which to postpone the installation of updates that include new features (eg Creators Update or Fall Creators Update) and the drop-down menu located below The item A qualitative update includes security improvements. It can be postponed for the following number of days to set the number of days (up to 30) for which to postpone the installation of security updates.

The Pause updates lever located at the bottom of the page, if activated, suspends all updates for a period of 35 days.

Other systems to block Windows 10 updates

Notification for restart schedule

If you are interested in understanding how to block Windows 10 updates, the first system that I suggest you take advantage of is to activate the notification function for the restart schedule : it is a feature that allows you to install updates in a planned manner as well as some useful accessory features to delay and prevent the installation of certain updates.

To do this, make sure that there is no check mark on the box located next to  Download updates for other Microsoft products during the Windows update .

The functionality in question, this is, however, it is good to keep it in mind, it can be activated only and exclusively in the event that the connection used is of the Wi-Fi type, for the connections made via cable, unfortunately the same is not true, sorry.

If you are interested in this solution, you can block Windows 10 updates by following these steps. To begin with, click on the search field located next to the Start button   on the taskbar, then type  settings  and click on the result placed under the item  Best Match .

In the new window that will open on the desktop at this point, click on  Network and Internet, then locate the  Wi-Fi item  from the alteral bar located on the left and click on it. In the screen that will now be shown to you, click on the item  Advanced Options  located under the name of the Wi-Fi network to which your PC is connected, identify the item  Set as consumption connection and then turn   the relative switch ON by clicking on it.

After carrying out all the steps I have indicated to block updates, Windows 10 confirms the application of the changes made simply by closing the window that you see on the screen.

If you have to think about it and, consequently, in the event that all the procedure just seen to block Windows 10 updates no longer interests you, keep in mind that you can always retrace your steps by going to disable the functionality in question. To do this, simply access the Network and Internet section   of the Windows 10 settings again, press the  Wi-Fi item  located on the sidebar, click on  Advanced Options , select the wireless network to which the computer is connected and turn  OFF  the switch under the item  Set as connection on consumption .
