How to be offline on Messenger from your mobile

Let’s get straight to the point and see how to be offline on Messenger from your mobile . Below are the steps to take on both Android and iOS / iPadOS.

Be invisible

One of the first things you can do to be offline on Messenger is to be invisible . In this way, other users will not see the “famous” green dot that distinguishes online users next to your name.

To activate the setting in question, start the Messenger app on your Android or iOS / iPadOS device , log in to your account (if necessary), tap on the thumbnail of your profile photo (top left) and, in the screen that opens, presses the word Activity status .

Now, you just have to move on OFF the switch located at the label shows when you’re active / in (on Android) or Show your activity status (on iOS / iPadOS) and confirm, pressing on the item Off present in the box that appeared on the screen. From now on, other users will always see you offline. The downside is that not even you will be able to “spy” on others and check when they access Messenger.

In case of second thoughts, to restore the setting you just changed, press again on the thumbnail of your profile photo (top left, in the main screen of the Messenger app), tap on the item Activity status and move it to OFF . ‘switch next to Show when you are active (on Android) or Show your activity status (on iOS / iPadOS).

Another solution that can be put into practice to be offline on Messenger is to log out of the account . At the time of writing, the Messenger app does not offer a specific function that allows you to do this and, for this reason, you will have to resort to the Facebook app for Android or iOS / iPadOS .

After opening the app in question and logging into your account, press the button (≡) and select the items Settings and privacy> Settings> Protection and access from the menu that is proposed to you. At this point, tap on the words Show or Show all , placed in correspondence with the item Devices from which you are logged in ; then presses the item Exit all sessions (located at the bottom of the screen) and press the Exit button , so as to close all the sessions open on your devices and disconnect from Messenger in a single tap.

If you have an Android device, you can also decide to take an alternative route, that is to delete all the Messenger app data that is saved on the device: to do this, open the Settings application (to understand us, the one with the icon a gear shape ) and go to the Applications menu > Messenger .

Then tap on the Storage or Memory option (the wording may vary according to the device in your possession) and, finally, press the Clear data button to delete all the data concerning your Messenger account. Once this is done, Messenger will no longer “remember” your data and therefore will not make you appear online in chat.

Deactivate the account

Disable Messenger account

If you want to be offline on Messenger, you may also want to consider deactivating the account . To do this, however, you need to act from your Facebook account. By deactivating the account from the official Facebook app, you can then go to the Messenger app and deactivate the account in the latter as well.

After opening the Facebook app on your Android or iOS / iPadOS device , log in to your account (if you have not already done so), press the symbol (≡) and tap on the Settings and privacy items> Settings> Account Control and Properties> Deactivation and Deletion .

In the screen that opens, presses the item Deactivate account , press the Continue button , enter the password and press Continue again to start the wizard that will lead you to deactivate the profile. In case of problems or doubts, do not hesitate to read the post in which I explain in detail how to deactivate a Facebook account.

As soon as you have deactivated your account in Facebook, you can proceed to deactivate the account also on Messenger: to do this, start the official Messenger application on your device, press on your photo (top left) and, in the screen that you see, tap on the item Legal and regulatory information . At this point, all you have to do is press the Disable Messenger item , enter your password and press the Disable button to complete the operation. Easier than that ?!

I remind you that, if you decide to retrace your steps and reactivate your Messenger account, all you have to do is log back into Facebook (in this way, of course, you will also reactivate your Messenger account).
