How to activate the microphone on Zoom on computer

Let’s start by seeing how to activate the microphone on Zoom from a computer. If you usually use the client of the service or its web version, this is the part of the article that interests you most.

Client

If you downloaded the Zoom client for Windows or macOS, start it and log into your account. If you haven’t created one yet and you don’t know how to do it, in this guide I have explained in detail the procedure you need to follow.

Once logged in, if it is the first time you use the program, click on the button Continue and start a new conference by clicking the orange button New Meeting located at the top left of the window and grant Zoom permissions to access the webcam and al microphone Of computer.

Then click on the button Join With Computer Audio. By doing so, you should join the conference you are about to start with the microphone already activated. Either way, you can mute and unmute the microphone by clicking the button Mute / Unmute, lower left. If at the bottom left, instead of seeing the “Mute / Unmute” button, you see the button Join Audioclick on the latter, press the blue button Join With Computer Audio in the box that appeared on the screen and you should have solved the problem.

If you are the host of a conference (i.e. the one who organized it), you can also manage the microphone of the various participants in the conference. How? Just hover the mouse cursor over the box for one of the participants and click the button Unmute that appears. To activate the microphone of all participants, however, click on the button Participants located at the bottom left and, in the menu that opens on the right, click on the button Unmute All.

Please note, however, that if users deactivate their microphone, as a host you will no longer be able to activate it: when you click on the “Unmute” button of one of the users in question, if they do not confirm this, the microphone will not be activated.

If instead of starting a videoconference, you simply have to join it, once you have accessed it through theID and the password or the link that the host gave you, you can manage your microphone via the button Mute / Unmute located at the bottom left, as I have already explained to you.

In case you don’t see the button in question, click on the button first Join Audio and then on that Join With Computer Audio in the box that appears on the screen.

Web version

Web Zoom

Zoom is also available in web versionusable both as an online service (only on Chrome) and as an extension for Chrome And Firefox. To use it, go to the main page of the service and log in to your account. If you don’t know how to do this, I have explained to you in detail how to proceed in this other article.

Once logged in, click on the link Host at a meeting (top right), then on the button Start meeting and click the link join from your browser. Then press the button Join Audio by Computer and, if you have not already done so, allow the service to access the microphone and to webcam Of computer. To activate / deactivate the microphone during the conference, simply click on the button Mute / Unmute located in the lower left.

To manage the microphones of the conference participants (you can only do this if you have created it yourself), click on the button Manage Participants located at the bottom and click on the button Mute Allto silence everyone, or on Unmute All, to activate everyone’s microphone. To activate / deactivate the microphone of individual participants, however, click on the button Mute / Unmute which appears when the mouse passes over the “window” of each of them.

Keep in mind, however, that if users deactivate their microphone, even if you are the host of the conference, you will no longer be able to activate it: in fact, when you click on the “Unmute” button, each user can decide whether to consent to the activation of the microphone or less.

If you have been invited to participate in a conference, on the other hand, after clicking on the link sent to you by the host and being accepted by the latter in the Zoom room, to deactivate or activate the microphone, all you have to do is click on the button Join Audio by Computer present in the box in the center and, during the conference, click on the button Mute / Unmute.
