How not to lose Instagram photo quality

Before I give you some practical advice on how not to make photos on Instagram grainyit seems to me appropriate to make some clarifications from the “technical” point of view.

First of all, you must know that unlike other social networks, Instagram does not have a native feature that allows you to enable or disable the loading of high-resolution contentas by default, when you share a photo on Instagram, it is posted at the highest possible resolution, which is 1080 pixels in width.

Also, when uploading a photo with a width included between 320 and 1080 pixelsthe original resolution is retained, as long as the aspect ratio is between 1.91: 1 and 4: 5. The height, on the other hand, must be between 566 and 1350 pixels with a width of 1080 pixels.

In case the photo has a lower resolution, the width will be increased up to 320 pixelswhile if you share a photo with a higher resolution, the width will be reduced to 1080 pixels.

The values indicated above are valid in general for all contents, but there are some more specific recommendations in relation to the various Instagram formats: in the postfor example, you can publish images square (report 1: 1 with resolution 1080 x 1080 pixels) but also vertical (dimension 1080 x 1350 pixels with proportion 4: 5) or horizontal (report 1.91: 1 with dimension 1080 x 566 pixels).

As regards the instagram storiesinstead, the relationship is 9:16 with resolution 1080 x 190 pixels. THE videoinstead, they must have dimension 1080 x 1080 pixels with relationship 1: 1 self squares; a relationship 4: 5 and a size of 1080 x 1350 pixels self verticaland a relationship 16: 9 with size of 1080 x 607 pixels self horizontal.

Having clarified the technical aspect of the question, let’s move on to practical advicetherefore, how you can actively act to make sure you upload high-resolution photos and videos to Instagram.

Primarily, shoot directly with your device’s camera, avoiding zooming, in order not to lose quality. Obviously, in order to create high-quality content, you must also have the right hardware. Therefore, it is important to have a smartphone with a high-end camera and perhaps associate it with some app that allow you to apply manual control over shooting parametersas an example Camera FV-5 for Android or Halide for iOS. I told you about it in more detail in some of my tutorials, such as those on how to photograph the stars with the phone and how to take professional photos.

Alternatively, if you have a bigger budget, you can directly purchase one professional cameraorienting yourself in the purchase through the advice I gave you in my guide dedicated to the subject.

Finally, you may need to apply some retouching to photos with some editing app usable directly on smartphones or photo editing software for PC. Examples of mobile apps are Snapseed for Android And iOS And VSCOalso available for Android And iOS. Regarding Windows And macOSinstead, I recommend you Photoshop or GIMP.

Regarding video editing, you can make use of apps to edit videos such as Inshot for Android And iOS or PC software like Adobe Premiere Pro for Windows And macOS or Final Cut Pro for macOS.

Finally, as regards the possibility of making stories in an advanced way without fear of a loss of quality, I recommend apps like Insta Story for Android And Made for iOS. I told you about it in more detail in my tutorial on how to make beautiful stories on Instagram.

How to see the contents on Instagram in high resolution

high resolution instagram content

How do you say? Are the contents you see “grainy” on Instagram not yours, but those of other users? If so, you can try to fix the problem by turning on the functionality that allows you to see the content posted by other users on Instagram in high resolution.

This feature can be activated in the social network app for Android (also downloadable from alternative stores) e iOS. Therefore, launch it and log into your account if necessary. Then click on the icon menu located in the upper right corner and tap on the item Settings> Accounts> Mobile data usage.

At this point, press on the voice High resolution content and check the item Wi-Fi only or on the one called Mobile + Wi-Fi (in this way you will consume several Giga, watch out!).

Also, if you want to see a photo or video posted on Instagram at the original resolutionyou can take advantage of some online services suitable for the purpose: an example is Instadp which, through the features Instagram Photos Downloader And Instagram Video Downloaderoffers a practical text field in which to paste the link of an Instagram content, in order to see it in high resolution and possibly download it.

For more information about it, I suggest you read my guide dedicated to how to see Instagram profile photos, in which I told you about it in more detail.
