Don’t get tagged on Facebook from your smartphone or tablet

If you want to find out how not to get tagged on Facebook and use the social network mainly from smartphones or tablets, start the official Facebook app and press thehamburger icon, which on Android is at the top right and on iOS at the bottom right. At this point, expand the menu Settings and privacy and go up first Account settings (or only Settings if you are using an iOS device) and then on Journal and tagging.

In the screen that opens, move to the section Check it out, tap on the item Want to check the posts they tag you in before the post appears in your timeline? and set on ON the function lever Checking the diary: in this way, when someone “tags” you in a message, you will see the post as “pending” and you decide whether to make it visible or not on your page. Of course, this setting does not prohibit others from posting the content you are tagged in on their profile.

If, on the other hand, you want to prevent someone from inserting tags in the posts you publish in your diary, tap on the entry Want to check the tags people add to your posts before the tags show up on Facebook? and set on ON the function lever Tag control.

Another setting that I recommend you to adjust is the one related to Facial recognition. Facebook, in fact, includes a system that automatically recognizes the faces of people portrayed in photos or videos and, consequently, suggests their tags (only in certain geographical areas and for the accounts of adult users).

To avoid being recognized by this system, go back to the menu Settings and privacy> Account settings Facebook, select the item Facial recognition, then that Do you want Facebook to recognize you in your photos and videos? and put the check mark next to the option No.
