Free MP3 converter: Have you tried copying some songs taken from the Internet to your portable media player but can’t play them? There must be a compatibility problem related to the file format. The best solution, in these cases, is to download a nice one free MP3 converter and give it “in meal” all the songs that you are not able to listen to on your device to, in fact, turn them into MP3, practically the most popular type of audio file in the world. How? Let’s find out now.

Below are the names of some software to convert music on Windows, Mac and Linux and all the necessary information to make the most of them. Clearly, you can use them not only to transform your audio files into MP3 but also to convert the format in question into one of the many other supported types. It’s much easier than you can imagine, not to mention that the quality of the songs you will be able to obtain will certainly be satisfactory (although conversions always involve a small loss in terms of “clarity” of the sound).

In general, if you don’t want to reduce the quality of your songs too much try to set a bitrate of at least 192 kbps. Better still if you can set one of 256 kbps or 320 kbps, but of course keep in mind the quality of the starting songs: converting a 192kbps encoded file into a 320kbps encoded file – be sure – you won’t increase the quality in any way, you will only get one file unnecessarily heavier!

Fre: ac (Windows / Mac / Linux)

Free MP3 converter

The first free MP3 converter I want to talk to you about is Fre: ac. It’s free, open source and cross-platform: it’s compatible not only with Windows, but also with Mac and Linux. In addition, it is very reliable and fast. Wondering what file formats does it support? MP3 but also all the other most popular ones, such as: M4A, WMA, Ogg, FLAC, AAC, WAV and Bonk. In short, try it now and you will see that you will not regret it.

To download it to your Windows PC, connect to his website and select the item Downloads in the left sidebar. Then click on the link located next to the entry Self extracting installer (Eg. fre: ac 1.0.24.exe) and wait for the download to finish.

When the download is complete, open the file freac-xx.exe just obtained and complete the Fre: ac installation process by clicking in sequence on Run, up Yup, up Forward, up Yup, up Forward four more times in succession and then up end. Then start the program by double clicking on the shortcut that has been added to the desktop.

If, on the other hand, you are using a Mac, after connecting to the program’s Internet site, click on the link next to the wording Binary .dmg image (Eg. freac-20150725-macosx.dmg).

When the download is complete, open the .dmg package that contains the software and drag its icon to the folder Applications by macOS. Then right click on it and choose You open twice in a row, in order to circumvent the limitations imposed by Apple on non-blessed developers.

Now, regardless of the operating system you are using, drag the audio files you want to convert with Fre: ac into the program window (or click on the icon of the White sheet and select them “manually”) and choose LAME MP3 Encoder as an output format (or another one of the available formats, if you want to convert from MP3) by clicking on arrow next to the green button with the symbol play.

So wait for the conversion to complete and you will find the converted songs in the folder Music of your computer. If you prefer, you can change the destination of the output files by clicking on the button Browse … bottom right and selecting the folder you prefer.

MediaHuman Free Audio Converter (Windows / Mac)

Free MP3 converter

Another excellent free MP3 converter that I would suggest is MediaHuman Free Audio Converter. It is available for both Windows and Mac, it is extremely simple to use and apart from MP3 it allows you to transform any type of audio file to and from the following formats: WMA, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG, AIFF and Apple Loseless. Try it now and you will see that you will not regret it.

When the download is complete, if you are using Windows open the obtained .exe file and click on first Run come on Yup. Select the item I accept the terms of the license agreement and click on Forward four times in a row. Then complete the setup by clicking on Install come on end.

If, on the other hand, what you are using is a Mac, open the newly obtained .dmg package and drag the converter icon to the folder Applications by macOS. Then right click on it and select You open twice in a row, in order to start the program, however, going around the limitations imposed by Apple against unauthorized developers.

Now that you see the MediaHuman Free Audio Converter window on the screen, drag over the songs you want to convert (or click on the button “+” to select them “manually”), expand the drop-down menu Format which is at the top and, from the further window that appears, select MP3 as the type of file you intend to obtain after the transformation (or another of the available formats, if you want to convert from MP3). Set (if you want) also the bitrate then click on Close.

Finally click on the button with the two arrows which is always at the top and the software will start converting all the songs by saving them in the folder Music Of computer. If you want to change the destination folder of the output files, click on the icon wrench, select the card Output and specify a path in the field below the entry Output folder.

FlicFlac Audio Converter (Windows)

Free MP3 converter

Another excellent free MP3 converter you can turn to is FlicFlac Audio Converter. Compared to the resources I have already told you about, it stands out for its essentiality: it has a user interface reduced to the bone (but still very easy to use) and does not require installations to be used. It can transform audio files to and from MP3 format but also WAV, FLAC, OGG and APE.

To try it, download it immediately on your computer by connecting to yours official website and clicking on the button Download FlicFlac.

When the download is complete, open the ZIP file you just downloaded and extract the contents into a folder of your choice. Then start the .exe file inside it and click on Run.

Once the program window appears on the desktop, click on the button to MP3 to transform your audio files into MP3 songs (or select another one from the available formats, if you need to convert from MP3). Then click on the icon with the wrench and the hammer located at the bottom right and select, from the menu that opens, the quality you want to set for the output files (in the section MP3 Presets).

At this point, you just have to drag the songs to be converted into the FlicFlac window (in the field where it is written Select or drop files) and wait for the software to do its job. In case the file drag doesn’t work, click on the button Select or drop files and select the files to convert “manually”. The output files are saved in the same folder as the source ones.

Moo0 Audio Converter (Windows)

Free MP3 converter

If the above solutions have not convinced you in a particular way, I can not help but invite you to test Moo0 Audio Converter. It is a program for Windows operating systems able to perform flawlessly the task of MP3 converter. Even in this case, it is a software with a fairly minimal interface and very simple to use. It obviously supports the conversion to and from the MP3 format but also allows you to intervene on all the other most popular (and not) file formats present on the square. Obviously it’s free.

To use it, connect to download page on the Softpedia website and click on the button Download now present at the top left. Then click on the link Softpeida Mirror (US) and wait for the download process to start and complete.

When the download is complete, open the .exe file obtained and press it Yes. So click on the button decline to refuse the installation of additional software, check the box I accept the conditions and click on Forward for three times. Then complete the setup by pressing on Install come on Close.

Now that you see the program window on the desktop, check that in the drop-down menu Convert to: which is at the bottom the option is selected MP3 (or, if you want to convert from MP3, select another one of the available destination formats) and press the button Advanced options to adjust settings related to quality, frequency, channels and volume.

At this point, drag the files you are interested in to act in the program window, next to the wording Drop your audio files here!. Once this is done, the file conversion process will immediately begin.

By default, the converted songs will be saved in the same folder as that of the source files. If you want, you can change this behavior by clicking on the menu File, by selecting Another folder … and indicating the reference path.

CloudConvert (Online)

Free MP3 converter

If you want to convert a piece of music to or from the MP3 format but don’t feel like downloading programs to your computer, you can rely on online solutions such as CloudConvert. Have you never heard of it? It is an excellent Web-based converter capable of transforming many different types of files (videos, audio files, archives, documents etc.) directly from the browser. Obviously it’s free (otherwise I wouldn’t even be here to tell you about it) and it works from any browser and operating system.

To test it firsthand, connect to yours home page, click on the button Select files and select the audio files you want to convert (whose size should not exceed 100MB in total). If you want to do it first, you can drag the songs directly into the browser window.

If the audio files you want to convert are located on Google Drive or on Dropbox, you can also upload them directly from there. To do this, press the button with the dart, select the name of the service you intend to use and log in to your account.

Once upload is complete, set the file format you want to get as output by clicking the button with the name of the format current of the file you find next to it, then on the item audio and subsequently on the desired option.

If you want to adjust the bitrate and other audio parameters before proceeding with the conversion, click the button with the wrench present next to the file name and adjusts the various parameters available on the screen based on what your needs and preferences are.

Then click on the button Start Conversion below to start converting songs. When the procedure is completed, a button will appear download next to the title of each song: click on it and the download of the files you have just transformed will automatically start.

If you have chosen to convert multiple audo files at the same time, you can also download them all together as a compressed archive. To do this, press the button create archive you find on the right and choose the compressed archive format you prefer.

I would like to point out that in case the 100MB limit was tight, click on the item Sign Up located in the upper right part of the site and by registering for free at CloudConvert you can raise the maximum threshold to 1GB. As for privacy, you can sleep relatively peacefully as CloudConvert, a few hours after uploading, automatically deletes all the files that are uploaded to its servers.
